Cloak & Dagger Review: First Light and Suicide Sprints (Season 1 Episode 1 and 2)
On Cloak & Dagger Season 1 Episode 1, “First Light,” and Season 1 Episode 2, “Suicide Sprints,” Tyrone and Tandy are introduced to one another years later after having saved each other’s lives as children.
Tandy’s life hasn’t been a basket of flowers with rainbows and sunshine, even though that’s more than likely how it should’ve been. Her father’s death as a child ultimately ruined everything as he was the one keeping things together.
Tandy’s mother is nothing more than a trailer trash, alcoholic, drug addict who only cares about the high and not her daughter. If we’re honest, if it weren’t for Tandy’s mother forgetting her then her father would not have been the one picking her up that day.

Tyrone, on the other hand, has some issues that he has to deal with because if he hadn’t stolen the radio out of that car, his brother would still be alive.
In the years to come the tides change, Tandy’s sweet life goes away once her mother becomes her sole caretaker, and Tyrone’s parents do everything in their power to make better circumstances for him. They push Tyrone to be his very best, even though they go overboard at times.
One thing that sticks out to me in the pilot is how Tyrone kept the ballet slipper he found on the beach that day after the storm. He never got the chance to see Tandy because she had left before he woke up. The ballet slipper signifies to him that what he saw and felt was true and it did happen.

Tyrone is a man of honor and loyalty, him punishing himself after basketball practice by running suicides when he doesn’t have to proves that. He feels sorry for getting the whole team in trouble for fighting a kid on the court and missing most of practice, but that doesn’t mean anything to his teammates.
It sucks that Tyrone messes up one time and suddenly his teammates are jumping him in the locker room. The entire time the beating is happening, I’m hoping his powers will activate randomly, but it never happens.
Their powers are making themselves known at their own pace, not whenever Tandy and Tyrone feel like using them. Which is not ideal, but they have to take what they can take.

The cop who killed Tyrone’s brother will get what’s coming to him; I hope that Tyrone is the one to make it happen. He deserves the vengeance of his brother.
Tyrone’s mother is ten times more likable than his father, maybe because we get a moment of connection between the two and we don’t see that between him and his father. His mother turned her life around and made herself get help because she knew that if she didn’t things wouldn’t get better, and that’s why I automatically like her more.
Tandy’s life took a turn for the worst when her father died. Now, she barely goes home to where her mother lives; instead, she lives in an abandoned church and steals to make a living.

Her life may be more complicated, but to say that she has more fun than Tyrone is an understatement. Tandy is out here crashing parties and tricking rich kids into inviting her into their homes so she can rob them blind. Sis is having a grand time making her money without having a real job.
She acts all tough noncaring, but when it comes down to it, Tandy does have a sense of morals. Once she figures out that the party she is hitting for money is a wedding party she instantly feels the regret, but knows that she has to follow through.
Her powers are coming in at a time where she needs to be saved from herself. She won’t tell anyone about how she really lives, not her boyfriend or anyone else, and the addictions that her mother has had passed down to her.

These powers that she’s acquired will hopefully make her end her drug addictions so she can get clean and get her life together.
One thing that upsets me about Tandy is how she uses Liam to get a brand new identity and then she up and leaves him. Liam is not just some random boy who dated Tandy to get some action, he genuinely cares for her and would do anything to make sure that she stays safe.
I mean, Liam pulls five grand out of nowhere to help Tandy leave town with a brand new identity and never once asks anything in return from her. He doesn’t want to see her get hurt, but in the end, he’s the one who ends up getting hurt.

I hope we haven’t seen the last of Liam and Tandy decides to turn around to help him before bailing.
Cloak & Dagger is intriguing and a perfect start to another Marvel show. The twists and turns will keep fans coming back for more week after week. Now that their powers are coming out more and more I can’t wait to see how things change.
This show will be a fan favorite, I can feel it.
Other Thoughts:
- Who was Tyrone’s mother pointing a gun at??
- Who is this cop that barely speaks a word and suddenly has Liam in custody?
- I hope that their powers start making more sense to them and they can figure out how to trigger them.
- It feels like Tandy and Tyrone’s powers are both connected and opposite at the same time with how they hurt one another with their abilities.
