Shadowhunters Review: Salt in the Wound (Season 3 Episode 7)

Reviews, Shadowhunters

With the identity of the owl revealed Clary, Alec, and Izzy are on a mission to save Jace before it’s too late on Shadowhunters Season 3 Episode 7, “Salt in the Wound.”

It shouldn’t have taken this long for Clary to speak up and tell Alec and Izzy the truth about what happened at Lake Lyn. But, I’m beyond happy that she’s speaking up now. You know, now that Jace has legitimately tried to kill her, and almost succeeded.

Part of me feels like Clary is giving up by telling Alec what she did, especially when she’s offering to send herself to the guard for the things that she’s done. That or she believes that she’s truly responsible for everything that’s happened.

I think that the most disturbing thing about Clary’s situation with Jace is that she thinks she’s the one who caused all of this to happen. I’m glad that Clary has someone like Izzy to reassure her that she is not a nuisance to anyone, especially Jace. She is not the cause of his pain.

If anyone should be taking the blame for why Jace is under Lilith’s possession, it should be Jace. He’s the one who told Clary that she’s not allowed to ask for help or talk about one of the scariest things that have happened in her life.

If Clary had told Alec and Izzy about Jace dying at Lake Lyn from the very beginning, there’s a possibility they wouldn’t be in this position.

Alec hugging Clary and reassuring her that he would do the same thing she did in her situation is sweet. I love how far their relationship has come since the beginning of the show.

I love Maia to death, she is one of my favorite characters, and to see the hurt and pain in her eyes when she sees Jordan face to face is like a hammer to the face. I hate that I didn’t see something like this coming, especially with how Jordan acted about Simon bringing over his girlfriend when he figured out he was dating Maia.

The return of Jordan, to Maia, is one of the biggest slaps in the face based on the betrayal he pulled. He was the one person in the world who got her to get over her fear of the ocean and made her open up out of her shell. He pushed her to do good things with her life and then once he began his transition that all changed.

Jordan can’t honestly believe that his excuse of becoming a werewolf works for much. Yes, he didn’t know what was going on with himself after what happened, but that doesn’t mean that you switch your attitude towards someone all of a sudden.

Jordan’s reaction to Maia wanting to go to college and not on some fantasy trip with him is ridiculous. His anger and emotions may have been altered due to the transformation, but the way he was trying to control her life isn’t a side effect. I think it shows parts of his true personality that hadn’t been opened up to Maia yet.

Him leaving her in the middle of the road to bleed out, for all he knew, also shows part of his real personality.

I hate that Magnus is blaming himself for Jace’s state of mind. It’s true, had Lilith not gotten ahold of the elixir then Jace’s love for Clary would still overpower her control, but there is no way for him to have known that. I hate how he beats himself up for things that are entirely out of his control.

The best that Magnus can do now is to keep working until he figures out a way to reverse the spell on Jace.

Other Thoughts:

  • If Lilith already knows that Simon is a daylighter after only learning that he’s a vampire must mean that daylighters are extraordinarily powerful in general.
  • If Simon is powerful enough to kill Lilith’s disciples, does this mean that if Lilith tried to attack him, she’d fall, too? It’s an interesting theory that I want to see put to the test. Simon could be the key to defeating her.
  • Clary is not smart to only portal Alec, Izzy, and Jace to safety. With everything she’s done, Imogen dead, and no proof that she’s telling the truth she could be in a whole lot of trouble.
