Brooklyn Nine-Nine Canceled at FOX

Brooklyn Nine-Nine, News

Everything is not cool, cool, cool, cool.

We have devastating news for fans of the hit cop comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine. It looks like our time with the 99th Precinct has been cut short as Fox has decided to cancel the series after its 5th season.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is not the only comedy whose time has come to an end at Fox. In the same announcement, we have also learned that Last Man On Earth and The Mick will not be returning either.

While news ofBrooklyn Nine-Nine‘s cancellation comes as a particular shock to die-hard followers and new fans alike, the possibility of not getting a Season 6 renewal is a question that has loomed over the show all season.

In April, co-creator Dan Goor didn’t express much doubt in the network renewing the series when he told TVLine that the upcoming Season 5 finale, which will feature the long-awaited wedding of Jake and Amy, was not intended to be a series finale. Although, he went on to say that, “in the unlikely event that it does serve [as our final episode],” fans will be satisfied with the ending.

According to TVLine, Brooklyn Nine-Nine has performed well since the comedy returned from hiatus in April with a total of 1.9 million viewers and a 0.9 demo rating. These numbers were an improvement from the show’s winter finale and delivered the second-largest audience of the season.

But those numbers hardly compare to the outpour of interest on social media as Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s recent traction on streaming sites such as Netflix and Hulu has given it an incredibly large fan following online.

It is no secret people have fallen in love with the Andy Samberg lead comedy for its portrayal of diverse stereotype-defying characters and the difficult conversations the show has on police brutality, racism, and sexuality while still managing to be funny.

When news of the cancellation broke, #Brooklyn99 became the number one trending topic on Twitter moments later. Fans have banded together, starting numerous petitions for Fox to renew Brooklyn Nine-Nine and have even gone as far as to ask Netflix and Hulu to pick up the show.

Netflix’s official fan account on twitter, @NetflixLifee, responded to the request with a tweet stating, “Let us know if you want Netflix to pick up #Brooklyn99.”

Unfortunately, all talk of a renewal or pick up from a different network is pure speculation at this point. But the outcry from the B99 community certainly is not.

Unless Fox is willing to pull a Timeless, we very much could be saying our final goodbyes to Brooklyn Nine-Nine on Sunday, May 20th at 8:30/7:30c when the series finale is set to air.

Until then…
NINE NINE!
