Siren Review: On The Road (Season 1 Episode 4)

Reviews, Siren

Xander and Calvin track down the location of Chris’ whereabouts and Ryn reconnect’s with her sister on Siren Season 1 Episode 4, “On The Road.”

I love how stubborn, hardheaded, and persistent Ryn is, but at the same time it can be the one thing that eventually gets her killed. Well, maybe not now that she’s reunited with her sister and not forcing herself to stay on land and find her.

Ryn is learning faster and faster as she spends more time with Ben and Maddie. It’s astonishing to see the connection she’s made with both Ben and Maddie, but it seems as if she and Maddie could be closer.

Ben cares for her and wants to figure everything about her out, and so does Maddie, but Maddie has a better way of going about things. Her reasoning for not wanting to put a tracker on Ryn is justified and reasonable. I think that Ben still see’s Ryn partly as this beautiful and confusing creature, whereas Maddie sees her more as a person.

I’m going to be upfront right now: if Ben ends up falling in love with Ryn and it turns into some weird love triangle situation, I’ll be out for the count. It is literally one of the only things that I don’t want to happen on the show.

I think that Chris should be a little more observant of his surroundings. He wakes up to the sound of Donna attacking all of the doctors in the lab and people running away.

It should be a little common sense that when Donna hasn’t spoken a word and walks away down the middle of the road there is something weird going on with her.

Even though his judging skills aren’t the best, I’m glad that Chris didn’t leave Donna by herself. If it was me, I honestly think that I would’ve left her had she run off on her own and started walking down the road.

I mean, Donna hasn’t said a word, can’t give any indication of what car she drives and breaks the radio because she doesn’t understand it. Something is fishy with her, and it’s evident from the get-go.

RENA OWEN

It’s far out there, but could Helen Hawkins be an old mermaid? When she shows Ryn her skin, it looks exactly like how Ryn’s looks like she’s dehydrating from being on land. I think that Helen could be an old mermaid who came to land multiple times throughout her life and eventually gathered the strength to live on land.

It makes more sense when you put in the part about Helen saying doctors take guesses when they don’t know what it is, about her skin. I think that’s why she knows so much about mermaids, the lore, and how they work. She knows too much about the subject when interacting with Ryn for comfort.

Helen isn’t scared of Ryn and willingly takes her in to help her. Helen Hawkins being a mermaid could be more reasonable than I think.

Siren continues to keep me wanting more and more each week. I hope that the rest of the season can keep the same pace.

Other Thoughts:

  • Now that Ryn and Donna have rekindled does this mean that Ryn will stay away? I highly doubt it, but there’s always the possibility.
  • I hope that Xander and Calvin take Chris and skip town because you know the military will be looking for him. They want all of their loose ends to be done with, and he’s just another loose end to them.
