Designated Survivor Review: Summit (Season 2 Episode 15)
On Designated Survivor Season 2 Episode 15, “Summit,” Kirkman does a damn good job of brokering the peace summit, while Emily doesn’t come off that great in her attempts to determine who is leaking classified intel.

ZOE MCLELLAN
Kendra has to steer her off of the witch hunt questionnaire. Emily doesn’t even see the issue with it until Kendra spells it out for her. Still, Kendra ends up cleaning it up a bit. She doesn’t get Emily to re-evaluate anything.
Seth: You know why I hate Wednesdays?
Emily: The unsettling prospect of catastrophic war?
Seth: Yup.
Then Emily asks Chuck, an FBI agent, to do something without a warrant, which clearly makes him deeply uncomfortable. She throws around how important it is to the President that this gets done in order to make things go her way.
Aside from Kirkman instructing her to handle it, we don’t see Emily and him discussing this matter or ongoing investigation at all. It comes across like Emily is going off book and taking it way too far, name-dropping the President to get her way.
Kendra and Chuck’s reactions make it seem like Emily needs to be reigned in, and no one is there to call her out on any of it. Aaron would be just the guy to do it too; he’s been in her shoes.

This is worrisome. It makes you question whether or not Emily is good at her job, and it makes you question her character a bit. Previously, Kirkman is the one who has needed help with his image, and now Emily is the one who needs it.
Do you think Emily goes too far when trying to track down the leak?
What is it with this season and all the back and forth nonsense? First, we go back and forth with whether or not Damian is a good guy, and now we’re doing it with Seth and Emily’s relationship status.
They literally just got back together on Designated Survivor Season 2 Episode 14, and now they have broken up again. It’s giving me a headache.

This doesn’t make the relationship enticing to the viewers.
It doesn’t give it any good angst. “Will they/won’t they” is referring to the time before a couple gets together, not the act of having them be on and off again within the span of an hour.
Hopefully, Seth and Emily are 100% done, for good. There better not be any “we were on a break” nonsense. Let’s put this failed ship behind us and move on to something that’s actually entertaining.
Lyor: He’s a misanthrope, Seth, a socially malformed, introverted creature incapable of meaningful human connection. Have you ever seen something so pathetic?
Also, please tell me I’m overreacting, and Kirkman and Dr. Andrea Frost are not flirting in that kitchen.

It is too soon for flirting. Alex did not die just so we can watch Kirkman tackle the hassles of dating as the President of the United States. Did anyone else pick up on a flirty vibe between the two of them?
I was prepared to sing Moss’ praises for helping out with the summit and saying great things about Kirkman. Then he had to go and be a jerk.
Seriously, leaking things to the press about Kirkman’s administration? This is a low blow. It’s obviously going to be a huge part of the rest of the season, but right now it’s too soon to tell if it’s going to be entertaining or annoying.
If the choice is to watch Moss v. Kirkman or more of the hacker and Damian drama, right now I’d prefer to watch the presidents battle it out. What are your thoughts on Moss’ actions?

What bothered me about Seth & Emily is that first she was complaining about his ambivalent terminology (“intermittent association”) and then suddenly he’s the one complaining about HER ambivalence. If he was trying to belittle the relationship why is it suddenly his beef that SHE’S doing that?
This entire relationship is a mess. I didn’t even pick up on that, but you are absolutely right. We need to just put this behind us for good.
I definitely thought the show was trying to set something up with Kirkman and Dr. Frost. How convenient that she’s a widow.
I’m glad I’m not crazy!! When the widow part was brought up, I was like “oh noooooo.” Sigh. It’s too soon for this. This show has proven that it can’t do dating storylines well, so let’s not drag Kirkman into this mess.
