The Magicians Review: Poached Eggs (Season 3 Episode 7)

Reviews, The Magicians

Margo and Eliot hit a stopping point, Kady escapes her imprisonment, and Alice has a realization on The Magicians Season 3 Episode 7, “Poached Eggs.”

Margo and Eliot have been fighting the Fairy Queen for quite awhile now, and just when they think they’re getting ahead in the fight, she pulls a card out of her sleeve and reveals that she’s always one step ahead.

Fillorians are not okay with the Floaters acting like Fillory is their land, and now they’re starting to make their voices heard by killing Floaters, hanging their bodies, and now taking Margo and Eliot hostage.

It’s so upsetting because Eliot and Margo finally thought they had the upper hand and it looked like they were going to outsmart the Fairy Queen, only for her to prove that she’s here for the long run and can’t be gotten rid of that easily.

I do agree with Margo, Eliot had Fillory and respect handed to him while Margo had to fight for every sliver that she’s gotten. This is her kingdom that she has sacrificed almost her entire life for, so she isn’t just going to give up and hand it over to the Fairy Queen without a fight.

Margo has been running Fillory on her own and having to sort humongous problems by herself on multiple occasions. She knows that Fillory is important to Eliot as well, but right now this is her baby, and she’s not about to let this psychotic fairy take it away from her.

Penny and Kady have been my consistent go-to relationship since Season 1, and it brings butterflies to my stomach and hope to my heart to see the two of them reconnecting.

Kady tries to hide that she cares, but I’m glad that she continues to keep it real, for the most part, with Penny. He loves Kady with everything inside of him, and it’s sweet to see him worrying about her when he’s technically dead. I mean, he isn’t dead but like Quentin said, his body is ash.

Penny doesn’t need to be alive to be happy because all he wants in his life is for Kady to be happy and that’s all he needs, but she can’t live without him. Penny is Kady’s lobster, and Kady is Penny’s lobster. They need each other.

I expected Alice’s outbursts with magic being back inside of her, but what I didn’t expect is Alice realizing that she’s doing the wrong thing and transferring Julia’s magic back to her. There’s a reason why Julia didn’t just ask Alice to give her the magic back; she knows that Alice isn’t herself with a ton of power surging through her and that there would more than likely be a fight to get it back.

Alice shows true character redemption and character progression when she saves Julia after attacking her. For a second it was like Niffin Alice was back when she throws Julia against the wall, but she breaks through and sees the error of her ways.

This is a positive sign for Alice and brings hope to me that when magic is, eventually, restored she’ll have a better understanding of how much she can handle at one time. I hope that she gets in the habit of asking for help and not continuing to try and fix everything by herself.

Even though I called Fray not being Fen and Eliot’s child since the beginning, it’s not as satisfactory for the truth to come out when the aftermath completely ruins Fen’s whole life.

Her whole universe has just shattered in front of her. This little girl she has been calling her own child has been playing her the whole time when her real daughter died at birth. It’s going to take Fen a moment to get better, so while she’s recovering, I hope that she stays with someone who can protect her so she doesn’t have to worry about it.

What makes this even more upsetting for Fen is that there’s a possibility that Eliot won’t give her another child, especially since the first time only happened under extreme circumstances.

Other Thoughts:

  • I think that if I had to turn myself into a magical creature I’d do just like Alice and pick a vampire.
  • I’m still on the fence about Poppy.
