Kiernan Shipka Lands Role of Sabrina on ‘Riverdale’ Companion Series
Netflix has chosen its Sabrina Spellman!
Mad Men’s Kiernan Shipka has landed the lead role of our favorite teenage witch on the Untitled Sabrina Project.
The series, which has been described as a “companion series” to Riverdale, is based on the dark comic book series The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. The coming-of-age story will include horror, witchcraft, and the occult in a way that previous iterations of Sabrina TV shows haven’t.

Sabrina is described as an empowered half-human, half-witch who is balancing both her educations. Attending Baxter High as a sophomore and starting her sorceress training will surely be difficult for the teenager.
“We’re all such huge fans of Kiernan’s work that when we started talking about who this new incarnation of Sabrina could be, her name was on everyone’s wish list. This is a darker, more macabre version of Sabrina, and we’re incredibly excited for people to see Kiernan make this iconic character her own,” said Riverdale Executive Producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.
Executive producer and Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater added: “I am thrilled that Kiernan is playing Sabrina and have no doubt that she will embody the strength, courage and boldness that has made the character a fan favorite.”
While the series was originally developed by The CW, Netflix picked up the series in a straight-to-series, two-season order.
Shipka is probably best known for her seven-season stint on Mad Men as Sally Draper. Since then she has been on Flower in the Attic and Feud.
