TV We’re Thankful for This Season: The Good Doctor, The Good Place, Wynonna Earp, and More (continued):
11. Will & Grace
I’m really thankful for Will & Grace being back and making me feel like it’s the 90s again… in a good way. Everything is the same and it’s perfect. How is Jack still so flexible?
– Amanda Coyne
12. Inspiring LGBT Characters
I’m thankful for my LGBT ladies giving me hope: Clarke Griffin, Alex Danvers, Waverly Earp and Nicole Haught. These women have given me an abundance of strength and hope this year. I’m a better, happier, and braver person for having witnessed their stories.
-Samantha Coley
13. Zumbo’s Just Desserts
I’m thankful for Zumbo’s Just Desserts on Netflix. This Australian baking competition was the perfect dose of happiness to balance out the very dark and graphic episodes of The Punisher.
You can only binge so much before you need something cheerful and non-violent. Plus, Zumbo’s Just Desserts filled the Top Chef void in my heart.
– Allison Nichols
14. Hannibal
I’m thankful for finding time this year to watch the incredible Hannibal. It was some of the most compelling, beautiful, frightening, and amazing television I’d ever seen.
I still can’t believe it was on network television because some of it was so arty, so gruesome, and every actor was incredible. Even though I finished it months ago, I still find myself thinking about it.
-Nora Williamson
15. The Exorcist
I am thankful for The Exorcist. I had been wary of Season 2, as it was being touted as “The Next Chapter.” I really loved Season 1, and didn’t want it to stray from that. It has quite pleasantly surprised me with its fresh storyline full of interesting new characters.
They are approaching the horror aspect with a classic purity of old school scare tactics, and it is working remarkably well. And the plot twists are incredible. I am genuinely shocked and scared while watching each and every episode.
Also worth noting is the superb acting from the returning cast as well as the newcomers. The Exorcist is just an all-around fun show to watch.
– Erin Allen
16. Grey’s Anatomy 300
I am thankful for the 300th episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Big milestone episodes can be hard to do, since there is often an expectation for something special.
I feel like Grey’s Anatomy masterfully offered nostalgia to the long time viewers like myself while also developing the narratives of the current season. I am a massive Mark Sloan fan and those little mentions of him manage to made me sob!
– Milka Väinämö
17. Sweet/Vicious
I am thankful for Sweet/Vicious and all of the good the cast and creators did through this show. It’s not an exaggeration to say that we’ve never seen a TV show where viewers see the perspective and the struggles of the victim after an assault and how they learn to live with it.
From the way the show deals with PTSD, depression, anxiety, racism, all the way down to showing actual rape, Sweet/Vicious made it a point to make it known that we are all strong enough to get through it. This show was real and I hope that another network sees the importance of it and decides to pick it back up. This show is still needed.
-Cade Taylor
18. Kane and Abby (The 100)
The 100’s Kane and Abby and their relationship. I’ve always gravitated towards the parent ships on teen shows. These two have been a joy to watch as they’ve fallen and grown in love with each other. They’ve also lead me to incredible friendships that will last a lifetime.
-Samantha Coley
19. Saturday Night Live
Saturday Night Live (and particularly Alec Baldwin’s portrayal of Donald Trump) has been such a bright spot this past year. The show has given us a chance to laugh when it feels like there isn’t much to laugh about, and it’s definitely not holding anything back.
– Ashley Bissette Sumerel
