Lethal Weapon Review: Flight Risk (Season 2 Episode 4)
On Lethal Weapon Season 2 Episode 4, “Flight Risk,” Murtaugh struggles to bond with Riana while Trish is out of town. There’s no doubt about it, they are definitely the highlight of the hour.
It’s such a fun, lighthearted storyline. Riana knowing that the ambush masquerading as breakfast was coming is unexpected and hilarious glimpse into their relationship.
The interrogation scene is hilarious, mainly because of the power shift that happens when Riana starts telling her dad why she doesn’t invite people over anymore. It’s the only upside to Riana’s arrest, which somehow gets swept under the rug by the end.

How did Riana getting arrested not warrant a phone call to Trish? Knowing Murtaugh, he would have called her while in the interrogation room with Riana. Random side note — Riana’s wave to Riggs while she’s handcuffed is too cute.
In all seriousness, it’s a good thing that we are seeing more of Murtaugh’s relationship with Riana. We haven’t really explored their dynamic that much, especially not one-on-one like we have been recently.
Riana asking her friends to stay in instead of going out is such a sweet moment. Seeing how the other father/child storylines ended up, a heartwarming moment between father and daughter is just what we needed.

The case itself is just okay. It’s poised to be this fun case chasing a con man who does Riggs approved things like jump out of a plane after robbing the passengers and give motels hilarious fake names.
However, the case quickly becomes about Dan’s (the con man’s) relationship with his daughter, Nora.
Yes, it helps connect Riggs’ flashbacks and Murtaugh’s Riana woes, but it’s unnecessary. Murtaugh telling Riggs about how Riana doesn’t want to hang out with him would have been enough to justify Riggs’ flashbacks.
The case should have just been fun. Dan and Nora are okay, but they aren’t instantly captivating, relatable, or entertaining, which would have been fine if they weren’t so heavily featured in the hour.

It would have been better to focus on Santos and Avery, especially since the “I’m trying to save your life” at the end comes on a bit suddenly.
Santos changes her tune about Avery awfully quickly, but maybe Riggs shooting very, very close to her has something to do with her sudden change of heart. Granted, it is nice that Santos seems to be moving away from her goal of firing Avery.
Avery: The Deputy Chief is going to fire me if I don’t show a semblance of control over you two. So, you guys are going to help me out right? Just dial it back a notch?
Riggs: I just don’t think we can.
Murtaugh: I don’t think so.
Riggs: I don’t feel comfortable.
Perhaps now we can get back to the the finger linger. Do you think Santos is going to ease up on Avery now?
