Lethal Weapon Review: Dancing in September (Season 2 Episode 2)
On Lethal Weapon Season 2 Episode 2, “Dancing in September,” Palmer is back, and everything is right with the world. I didn’t realize how much I needed to see Palmer and Riggs kind of on the outs until now.
Avery, Scorsese, and Murtaugh coaching Riggs on how to properly talk to Palmer is hilarious, as is Murtaugh getting annoyed that he keeps witnessing Riggs and Palmer’s slightly strange brand of foreplay.
The whole ordeal brings a smile to your face and confirms that Riggs and Palmer are just about perfect for each other.
Initially, Palmer not wanting to team up and create a task force comes off as a negative, but then the competition starts. Riggs v. Palmer helps make the case a lot more entertaining.
I’m not saying the case itself is boring, but the competitive and flirty banter between Riggs and Palmer makes it a lot more fun to watch. Sure, Riggs and Murtaugh working to take down some Russian mobsters would have been hilarious, but Palmer makes the case even better.
Also, I’m going to need more of Avery being out in the field with Riggs and Murtaugh. It’s a new facet of their relationship to explore.
Avery normally chastising them after they have racked up another enormous bill for the city or created another international incident; he’s never been on the ground floor helping or witnessing Murtaugh and Riggs’ unique method of catching bad guys.
Murtaugh: What are you doing? Keep her steady!
Avery: It’s called the ocean, Murtaugh.
Now that Deputy Chief Gina Santos is in town and kicking Avery out of his office, hopefully this will allow Avery to ride along with Riggs and Murtaugh more. Avery being out in the field is a recipe for hilarity.

Then, there’s all that finger linger business between Murtaugh and Santos.
Murtaugh thinks Riggs and Palmer have weird foreplay, but is there anything that can top the weirdness of the phrase, finger linger? I think not.
Murtaugh having to convince, or try to convince, Riggs and Avery that there’s tension between him and Santos is just perfect. As much as I want to hear Riggs’ reaction when he finds out that Murtaugh isn’t making everything up, let’s have the disbelief play out a while longer.
Murtaugh: You don’t remember that we were partners?
Santos: For like a day!
Murtaugh: No, two days! One night.
It’s a lot of fun watching Murtaugh emphatically attempt to convince people that he’s not making things up. Plus, the longer this hilarity lasts, the longer it is until we have to face real consequences.
There’s definitely going to be some tension and drama between Murtaugh and Trish when this finger linger business comes to light.
While we can hope that there won’t be any new incidents between Murtaugh and Santos, it’s obvious that something is going to happen. Why else bring up the history in the first place?

Time to start preparing for the Murtaugh and Trish fallout. It’s going to be rough. Granted, it would be interesting to see how Riggs deals with tension between Murtaugh and Trish. I don’t think he would take it well.
Honestly, I think Santos will cause some fights to break out, but I don’t think Murtaugh and Trish’s marriage is in jeopardy. Do you think that Santos is going to pose a real risk to Murtaugh and Trish’s marriage?
