The Bold Type Review: Before Tequila Sunrise (Season 1 Episode 9)
On The Bold Type Season 1 Episode 9, Jane takes a leap and accepts her job at Incite, Kat says a heartbreaking goodbye to Adena and Sutton wakes to regret her one night stand with Alex. This episode is everything I consistently need from this show and so much more.
Throughout the season, The Bold Type had about 4 episodes with surprises and angst. This one has to be the best.

In my review of The Bold Type season 1 Episode 8, I expressed my frustration with each story’s predictability. I explained that the plot monotony kills the angst and thereby the excitement to watch.
And although this episode follows a similar pattern, none of the women make predictable decisions.
Jane decides to release her habits of safe behavior and work for the start-up company that gives her more writing opportunities. In my review, I stated that Jacqueline would probably show Jane that Scarlet has growing room for her.
However, Jacqueline does what is best for Jane, as always. And as a result, there are so many more doors opened for stories and character dynamics. I find it odd that Jane told Incite she would accept the job before she talked things over with Jacqueline.
However, I’m sure Jacqueline will be full of sage advice and well wishes for her favorite writing pupil.
Sutton lands her first solo fashion credit for Scarlet through Alex. However, things might change after their one-night stand.

Sutton’s straddling two different ships and she’s being torn apart. She clearly hasn’t gotten over Richard, just as Richard hasn’t gotten over her. However, her one night of drunken passion with Alex could lead to so much trouble.
Alex has always been easy going when it comes to Sutton and Jane. But will he be as calm about Sutton’s indecisive behavior?
In The Bold Type Season 1 Episode 6, he was fine with leaving the ball in Sutton’s court. Since she didn’t know about his feelings, he didn’t take her holding his face and saying she loves him as an advance.
However, sex changes things. Although Sutton is shown to immediately regret it, Alex wakes up and immediately asks how she’d like her morning coffee.
Will Alex feel comfortable working with her on their project? Will Sutton want to put herself in that awkward position, solo credit or not?
The Bold Type Season 1 Episode 9 doesn’t just leave Sutton in turmoil at the end of the episode, but also Kat and Adena. Although both women feel their love for one another 10x more than when Adena first decided to come back, they have to separate.
Kat’s romantic sensibilities turn a possibly horrible night into one for the books. They connect with one another on an emotional and physical level. And I have to say, it’s about damn time.

I’ve been waiting for an Adena and Kat sex scene for a while now. Their chemistry and attraction are always fire-hot. They just hardly ever get to act on it.
Now Kat finally knows what a real relationship with Adena feels like, I doubt the two will be a part for long. Kat hesitates to leave everything behind to follow Adena, but being without her seems just as torturous for Kat. So, something has got to give.
For the audience’s sanity and Kat’s, Adena has to get her work visa approved.
Another couple that needs to be together for everyone’s sanity is Jane and Ryan. Did you all notice Jane’s alarm when Ryan calls himself, “pinstripe guy.” Jane acts surprised he even knows about that nickname.
But Ryan takes it all on the chin and even turns it into a joke to give her advice. In my review of The Bold Type Season 1 Episode 4, I call interactions between Jane and Ryan a situationship, which means a casual relationship with no commitments.
But it seems like Ryan wants more than that now and Jane’s already on a roll by accepting her job at Incite, why not take another leap? Jump into his arms, Jane! You know you miss all the deep conversations, wonderful advice and having fun at least twice a night.

Overall, The Bold Type Season 1 Episode 9 does not disappoint. It’s nice seeing Jane, Sutton and Kat let loose and have a night full of fun and passion. I need more episodes like this, please.
I want more surprises, faster stories with game-changing events and the same amount of wokeness.
