Younger Review: A Novel Marriage (Season 4 Episode 10)
Younger continues to make me want to pull my hair out (in a good way) with Younger Season 4 Episode 10, “A Novel Marriage.” With the press release for Pauline’s book going out, everyone is talking about it, putting Liza into a more and more awkward place with every word.
The thing about Pauline is that she’s really hard to dislike. She’s smart, and funny, and kind, and ambitious, and she just wants to go after the life that she really wants, which as Liza has found out, makes her very relatable. Liza has quickly fallen into a friendship with her against her better judgement, but I can’t even blame her.
However, Charles and Pauline definitely don’t seem to be on the same page in regards to their relationship or it’s novelization. With each of them feeding different information to Liza it proves that they have completely different ideas about their future together.
Charles is clearly still very into Liza, and he doesn’t want to give up on their relationship. And while I desperately want their relationship to work out, I also see where Liza is coming from. This book is going to be a huge success and it’s also something she really believes in and can relate to, obviously she wants to follow through with it all the way to the end.
Liza: Yeah, and she still loves her husband.
Maggie: You still love her husband.
With this relationship, Younger is doing what it does best by putting Liza in a situation where all sides are somehow simultaneously impossible and necessary. Something is always pulling her away from Charles, but their relationship is as inevitable as it is complicated.
Although they agree to focus on the book for now, I definitely don’t think that this is the end for Liza and Charles.
Louise: May all of our stories have happy endings.
Meanwhile, the other couples of Younger reach impasses of their own.
Diana finally gives Richard an ultimatum, giving him one week to get his son (and all his friends) out of her apartment. I’m so glad she’s taking a stand against him.

As happy as I am for Diana that she’s getting laid regularly, and is seemingly very satisfied, Richard is beyond manipulative. He’s been using sex and therapy tactics to walk all over her and it needs to stop.
On the other hand Clare and Josh are made for each other, and I can see a real future for them. Clare goes the extra mile in the apartment, saying that it’s important to her that Josh’s friends like her. Unfortunately for these two lovebirds, Clare’s work visa is ending in a week and she’ll have to go home to Ireland. Will Josh go with her or will they find another way to stay together?
Liza: You must think I’m the craziest person you’ve ever met.
Jay: I’ve been waiting a long time to meet someone crazy like you.
When Liza gets recognized at Louise’s party Jay comes to her rescue and they fall into one of the best romance tropes: fake relationship! Jay seems genuinely interested in pursuing a relationship with Liza, and after spending the evening together Liza doesn’t seem opposed to the idea.

My heart lies with Liza and Charles, but in the meantime, Jay does seem good for her. What do you think of this new twist?
OTHER THOUGHTS:
- Diana seems to notice the tension between Liza and Charles at the beginning of “A Novel Marriage.” Do you think she’ll figure out what’s going on between them?
- Lauren got fired, but she wants to start her own PR firm, which seems like the perfect job for her. How will living with Josh and Kelsey change up the group dynamic?
- Maggie ended up embracing her naked Google Earth photo like a true artist! She wasn’t in this episode much, but she’s still a delight.
- Liza’s budding romance with Charles is warring with her new friendship with Pauline, who’s side are you on? #TeamCharles or #TeamPauline?
