The Big Bang Theory Cast Talks Pranks, Emotional Moments on Set, and an Alternate Version of ‘Soft Kitty’

San Diego Comic-Con, The Big Bang Theory

The San Diego Comic-Con Panel for The Big Bang Theory was less a preview of what’s to come and more a stroll through memory lane, but what a wonderful stroll it was.

Moderating this particular panel were Riki Lindhome and Josh Ross Bowie, who play recurring characters on the show, while the cast present included Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco, Kunal Nayyar, and Kevin Sussman as well as the members of the producing-writing team including Bill Prady, Steve Molaro, Steve Holland, Dave Goetsch, Eric Kaplan, and Maria Ferrari.

The cast discussed the feelings involved – for all of them – surrounding the moment where Sheldon (Jim Parsons) finally proposed to his long-time girlfriend Amy (Mayim Bialik).

“We were all crying,” said Kunal Nayyar, who plays Raj, while Kevin Sussman who portrays Stuar, stated that he “came as close to crying as he’s capable of.”

Kaley Cuoco, meanwhile, shared that “everyone and everyone’s mother and friend was behind the camera for this one scene, even though we all knew what was going to happen.”

And just in case you think she has no feelings, she admitted to tearing up, sharing that there have been “so many years and so many relationships have transformed, and to see that be this pinnacle of the season, it was just really cool. We’ve all come a long way.”

Not content to just give us Shamy feels, stars Kaley Cuoco and John Galecki also discussed a prank gone wrong that took place during The Big Bang Theory Season 6’s Valentine’s Day episode, which finds Leonard and Penny fighting.

The duo decided to play a joke on the rest of the cast, and take the fight to a physical level, with Galecki jokingly punching Cuoco in the face. It would all have been fine if Cuoco’s head hadn’t accidentally caught a chair on the way to the ground, splitting open her eye.

The worst part? They were both unaware, so they continued the joke until someone finally noticed Cuoco was bleeding.

“We’re not allowed to do those jokes anymore,” Cuoco laughed.

And, that wasn’t all – for after recounting this, the producers actually presented the audience with, you guessed it, video of the incident!

Though, to be honest, it’s one of those things that’s only fun when you tell it.

Finally, the cast closed off the panel in the only way a panel for The Big Bang Theory can be closed, by singing lost verses of “Soft kitty” about other animals – like turtles.

An example: “Hard turtle, wet turtle, where did your head go? Happy, turtle, sleepy turtle, slow, slow, slow.”

This all came up because of the revelation that there was an alternate version of Amy singing the song to Sheldon that we never got to see.

“Sometimes we write and shoot things that we love, but they don’t make it on TV. So one thing from this season you never got to hear was Amy singing an alternate version of ‘Soft Kitty’ to Sheldon.”

The horror. We can’t imagine Sheldon would react all that well to that.

The Big Bang Theory returns to CBS on September 25th.
