Younger Review: Gettin’ Hygge with It (Season 4 Episode 2)
I’d like for all my parties to be hygge-themed from now on, wouldn’t you?
On Younger Season 4 Episode 2, “Gettin’ Hygge with It,” Kelsey and Josh continue to bond while Liza comes to terms with the fact that the two of them are living together.
Though Kelsey and Josh’s bonding actually comes off a bit forced at times, seeing their friendship develop is interesting to watch, and it’s not like we want either of them to hurt. It’s actually satisfying to see the two of them lean on one another, especially since they even have more common ground than they realized.
Josh’s love for grits is adorable, you guys.

Meanwhile, Liza’s relationships with both Charles and Diana suddenly make more sense than they ever have. The moment when all of them try to understand what a meme is, and Kelsey is the only one who really gets it, is as hilarious as it is heartbreaking. Part of Kelsey’s pain is coming from the fact that she can’t identify with Liza in the way she thought she could before.
It’s lonely for Liza too, who can identify with the perspectives of Charles and Diana, though she can’t say it.
I imagine Diana and Charles, whenever they learn the truth, are going to be much more receptive to it. Diana would probably even understand Liza’s point of view to an extent, and it might even afford them a chance to become closer.
They’re already getting there, and part of that is because they do understand each other on a deeper level, whether Diana actually realizes or not.
And as Richard points out, she’s come to trust Liza more than anyone else.
Richard: You’re one of the very few people she has complete faith in.
There’s the complication.
Despite the fact that they’re at odds with one another, Liza insists on giving Kelsey some unsolicited advice about Colin. Her advice is right, and it comes from a place of love. Colin is definitely an opportunist.

Naturally, Kelsey doesn’t want to listen to Liza’s advice, but it still sticks with her. She may not be willing to forgive Liza any time soon, but realizing Liza is right about this one thing may be a step in the right direction.
While everything surrounding Liza’s secret feels pretty heavy, it’s worth pointing out how much humor can still be found in it. It’s funny that Charles and Diana don’t know they’re closer in age to Liza than Kelsey.
Diana says Liza and Kelsey are having “twenty-something drama,” and Charles can’t quite connect how Liza knows so much about fixing his back spasm.
Charles: How do you know so much about this?
Liza: My … friend’s husband has a bad back.
Even Liza and Kelsey’s fight in the bathroom is funny, since half of it is over the fact Liza still doesn’t fully understand what a meme is. That humor is major reason this show works. It’s keeps Liza likable, and keeps us all on board with a show that ultimately centers on dishonesty.
Other thoughts:
- Hygga sounds amazing. If you’re interested learning more about it, here’s an article that explains the hygge trend in detail.
- Liza geeking out over of the book scented candles is just one of the many examples why I love her.
- It’s too bad Montana turns out to be straight, but it’s nice that Maggie has a fan — and now, a new assistant.
- Liza and Charles are soul mates, right? Right?!
- Kelsey does have a very specific type. “She can’t help it. She’s a Doppelbänger.”
