The Mist Review: The Devil You Know (Season 1 Episode 6)
The Mist has lost its touch.
On The Mist Season 1 Episode 6, “The Devil You Know,” it’s an hour of frightening encounters for some of our main characters, but the tension and scare factor falls flat. Nothing this hour makes any sense, and it feels like the writers are searching for ways to stretch a story that just can’t be stretched anymore.
The mist is not being a very good big bad. While it reveals its dark side occasionally, the only thing it really does is sit around. Sure, people are doing some crazy stuff, but is the mist really to blame?
There are no good answers as to why the mist is in Bridgeville.
We’re already past the halfway point, and there has been no movement towards that end of the story. At least you’d think the audience would have some idea of what the mist is and why it’s around, but we’re in the dark as much as the residents of the town.

Kevin almost becomes a victim of the mist thanks to the crazy doctor, but there’s something about the Copeland family that the mist just doesn’t like. Are the Copelands that pure that they don’t have any past transgressions for the mist to latch onto?
That’s probably not the case, but once again we have a mystery with no answers.
Not that all mysteries need to be resolved quickly, but we’ve been given no clues to even suggest why the Copelands are immune to the mist — well, Alex and Kevin anyway. Eve has yet to meet the mist firsthand, so we don’t really know what it will do to her, if anything.
Natalie also seems to be immune to the mist, but at least we have an idea as to why it might like her. She’s a nature lover, and she understands what makes nature tick. She might be the character who holds the key to the whole mist mystery. People are starting to believe her and turn away from the idea of God.
It might not be the right answer, but in times of trouble, people will latch onto even the craziest of ideas, and right now Natalie’s idea of the Black Spring seems like the most logical even if no one understands what the Black Spring is (including us).
While The Mist is trying its darndest to keep us engaged, it’s failing miserably. Perhaps it’s time for the mist and this show to just disappear.

Other Thoughts:
- It was surprising that Mia returned to the hospital, but it shows that she cares about others more than herself. It’s also interesting that she was able to resist the visions of her mother once she popped the pill. Does the pill act as an immune agent against the mist?
- But that wouldn’t be an answer for the supernatural part of the mist, like the leeches.
- Jay is probably the one who set the fire, right? Is he a spy for the other team?
- There is still nothing likable about Eve or Kevin.
- Eve making posters of hope is a bad idea. It will come back to bite her.
