15. Dolores Herbig (as in her big brown eyes), Dead Like Me

George’s Happy Time boss is much more than the buttoned-up, overly organized supervisor she appears to be. Her honesty and enthusiasm win over the reluctant George, and she becomes a kind of mother-figure to her. Throughout the series, Dolores reveals bits and pieces of her past and personality which makes her one of the most interesting characters on a show full of them. “You gotta wonder about Delores Herbig and her big, strange heart.”

Beverly was a perceptive and sharp CSI whose curiosity and disregard of proper procedure led her to her death by Hannibal’s hand. The way that Hannibal elaborately displayed her body shows how much respect he had for her intelligence.

17. Media, American Gods

As the dynamic mouthpiece for the New Gods, Media pushes their agenda with style and grace. She takes the forms of dead celebrities, and is viciously charming. Media would much rather convince and threaten to get her way rather than result to violence. Even though she is all-powerful, she is still vulnerable. Try as she might, her hurt and frustration can be seen behind her Hollywood facades.

18. Joy Lass, Dead Like Me

Joy tries so hard. She tries to get her daughter to like her, she tries to get her husband to talk to her, she tries to find happiness. She is usually met with much resistance from her family and even herself. She never stops trying though, making her a tough and tenacious woman that her daughters can look up to—even if it doesn’t seem like they do.
