Two powerful matriarchs clash in Netflix’s new Western series, The Abandons, starring Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson.
The series focuses on two families, the Van Nesses and — you guessed it — the Abandons, living in the Washington Territory in 1854.
The Van Ness family is a family of wealth and privilege led by their matriarch, Constance Van Ness, played by Gillian Anderson. Constance is a widow who has grown the wealth left to her by her husband through her charm, tenacity, and business savvy.
To keep up with the territory’s rapid expansion, Constance sets her sights on a piece of land known as Jasper Hollow. That, however, brings her into direct conflict with Headey’s Fiona Nolan, who lives there with her adopted children.
This found family, known as The Abandons, isn’t interested in selling to Constance, setting off an epic battle between the two women and their families.
The Abandonspromises to bring all the action and melodrama we love about westerns. That’s because complicating the confrontation between the two matriarchs are secrets, lies, star-crossed lovers, and even a murder.
