Reviews, Wynonna Earp

It’s homecoming in Purgatory and Wynonna Earp has hit its Season 2 stride.

While it still leaves me with a lot of questions about what exactly is going on, Wynonna Earp Season 2 Episode 3, “Gonna Getcha Good” gives me a lot more of what I loved about Season 1 than the past two episodes of Season 2.

NEEDED: NASTY WOMEN

We finally get some resolution on Nicole’s internal conflict over not feeling included in the team or fulfilled by her day job. Her frustration is completely understandable and it’s been building steadily over the beginning of this season.

When it’s further exacerbated by being kept on the outs of this week’s supernatural murder case and being messed with by Purgatory’s resident rich pervert, Nicole finally reaches her breaking point.

Nedley: Boys will be boys.

Nicole: Did I hit my head and wake up in patriarchal bullshit land?

Seeing Nicole (and Waverly) deal with Tucker Gardner is all too familiar to any woman. So when Nedley brings out Tucker’s file and gives Nicole his best motivational speech, it’s that much more satisfying. I love that this renews her enthusiasm for her position as well as gives her an opening to make her job more doable.

Nedley: Who will keep the everyday, non-werewolf citizens of Purgatory safe, Officer Haught?

I’m glad we’ve overcome this obstacle with her and I look forward to what comes next for Nicole.

MISSING: LOCAL SECRET AGENT LIZARD MAN

Though Dolls is still gone on Wynonna Earp Season 2 Episode 2, once again his absence is still an explicit part of the story. We learn that the real reason Doc bought Shorty’s and brought in Rosita is to recreate the serum that kept Dolls human.

There’s clearly a very interesting relationship dynamic between Wynonna, Doc, and Dolls. This relationship runs deep with love in all three directions and it’s so satisfyingly free of the stereotypical love triangle tropes.

Doc: I’m the one Dolls can afford to lose.

Wynonna: But you still did it.

Doc: I ain’t doing it for him.

UNKNOWN: SISTER BODY-SNATCHED BY MONSTER

I believe that “Gonna Getcha Good” brings us one step closer to finding out what exactly is going on with Waverly. We learn that Waverly doesn’t remember what happens when she goes into demon mode. We also learn that whatever she is, she’s taken Dolls hostage and is collecting an interesting amount metal.

At least Nicole seems to know that something is off about her girlfriend, even if she’s not sure what it is. Hopefully, Nicole’s concern will clue Wynonna in soon and we’ll get them working together to figure out what’s up with the girl they both love.
