The Bachelorette Recap: A Battle of Good vs. Lee-vil (Season 13 Episode 5)
Season 13’s biggest and baddest feud came to a head during last week’s episode of The Bachelorette, and on this week’s two-night event, it’s all about to end in an “epic two-on-one.”
At the start of The Bachelorette Season 13 Episode 5, this drama is put on hold as Rachel and Bryan share a special moment in which he tells her that he thinks they’re perfect for each other, and that he can see himself falling in love at the end of all this.
The swoon-worthy romance is short lived, however, as Kenny and Lee’s hatred of each other once again takes center stage. After yet another bickering match, Rachel interrupts their argument to present the night’s date rose to Bryan — unsurprisingly.
Kenny chooses this moment to throw shade at Lee by telling Bryan that he respects him for not causing any issues among the other men. Kenny then shares (with the camera) that he can only “feel bad for Lee’s parents”, because their child is Lee. As an audience, we have to wonder whether Lee’s parents, if watching, are highly insulted or nodding in agreement (more likely the later?).
Jack’s (Intensely White) Smile Falls
We have yet to see Rachel’s last one-on-one in South Carolina, and it’s finally Jack’s chance to shine — or speak, for that matter.
Their day begins with shots of oysters, then finds the pair at a dance hall reminiscent of Kaitlyn Bristowe’s date with Ben H. (memorable because, on this night, all of America fell in love with the future Bachelor Nation favorite).
The comparison to Ben’s great date ends here, unfortunately. From their awkward dancing to their first kiss, which Rachel near-refuses by telling Jack she’s “contagious”, the chemistry just isn’t there.
Sadly, Jack is completely oblivious. He tells Rachel that he just wants to take her back to Dallas and lock her in a room with him. This unintentional creepiness is the last straw for Rachel, and she quickly lets him know that, though he’s clearly a great guy, she can’t drag him along by allowing him to stay.

#TeamWill
Meanwhile, back at the hotel, Will has a civilized conversation with Lee, attempting to explain why Kenny took offense to being called “aggressive” when he felt he hadn’t been. According to Will’s view, the historic and unjust association between black men and aggressive behavior made this comment feel racial charged.
Lee, who claims he “doesn’t get the ‘race card'”, is unmoved. Thus, the only positive outcome of this conversation is that it allowed Will’s intelligent and eloquent side to make another (albeit brief) appearance.
Another Two Bite the Dust
Feeling anxious over how difficult it was to send Jack home at this stage in the game, Rachel chooses to cancel the cocktail party this week as to not waste any more of the men’s time.
Moving directly into the Rose Ceremony, tensions are at an all-time high. One by one, the men are awarded roses until it’s just Lee, Iggy, and Tickle Monster remaining. Of course, no amount of intense music can fool us into believing it’s Lee’s time to go. He stays (for his highly-promoted two-on-one date, of course), while the others are sent home.
Free Falling in Love
Two men lighter, the group jets off once again to beautiful Norway. Continuing on her mission to stop wasting any time, Rachel enters the guys hotel room and personally invites Bryan on a one-on-one date, taking him with her right then and there.
This casual and carefree start to their date together is no indication of the activity ahead. Rachel and Bryan will be dropping down from a ski shoot that stands high above the city’s skyline attached to nothing but ropes and pulleys.

Though both claim to be terrified, they go through with the slow drop — and still manage to make out mid-way down.
Over the course of their evening together, Rachel and Bryan only grow more and more invested in one another. After sharing stories about their insecurities and hopes for the future, Bryan takes a leap and tells Rachel he’s already falling in love.
Rachel, who can’t share how she feels but is obviously thrilled, hands him the rose right away. So could the first to impress her be the one left standing in the end?? It wouldn’t be the first time!
Having a (Hand) Ball
The rest of the guys — minus Kenny and Lee, of course — are invited on a hand ball group date. They enter a gymnasium where a group of European world champions are showing off their on-court skills. Apparently, European hand ball is a pretty big deal, and it’s a difficult sport to master.
In typical group date fashion, they divide into teams and compete against each other. But while all of the guys give the game their best efforts, Will is the one to impress Rachel with his athleticism.
For this, he gets the first one-on-one time with Rachel during the cocktail portion of the evening. Here, he confesses that he was hurt by a woman he loved shortly before coming onto the show, and that he can sometimes hold himself back by being guarded. This conversation is a step in the right direction for Will and Rachel, and they seal it with a confirmation of their developing feelings for each other — and a kiss.
Later in the night, Rachel’s private chat with Peter escalates into a heavy hot tub make-out, and when they finally return the others reveal that the pair had been gone for a whopping three and a half hours.

Peter, of course, is confident that he will receive the group date rose, but to everyone’s shock, it’s still Will who comes out on top. Clearly, time was not a determinate in impressing Rach tonight.
The Epic Showdown Begins
It’s finally time for the week’s big battle: Kenny vs. Lee. They set off with Rachel in a helicopter, which lands them in the middle of nowhere.
As soon as they arrive, Rachel takes Kenny aside to speak with him privately. Here, he wastes no time telling her how he feels. He’s upset about the way things have been between them over the past two weeks and wants to go back to before Lee got in the way of their blossoming romance.
He tells her: “On paper, you’re amazing. But in person, you’re also amazing.” This comment, though simple, is such a sweet way to express his impression of Rachel, and she seems taken by it. She confesses that she wants to believe him, so we can only hope that she chooses to at the end of the day.
Unfortunately, Rachel’s time with Lee causes another set-back. Lee tells her that Kenny called him a “snake” and a “b*tch” — which is true — and she is immediately angered by the later. If only she knew that Lee truly deserved it!!
The story quickly escalates beyond the truth, and Lee again insists that Kenny was violent toward him. Rachel brings this to Kenny’s attention and he denies it, but it’s apparent that she isn’t sure what or who to believe anymore.
As Kenny walks off on his own, laughing maniacally with disbelief over this unfair situation, the episode cuts to a close.
What will happen during tomorrow’s episode? How will this battle of who said what come to an end? Let us know what you think of Kenny and Lee, and tune in Tuesday at 8/7c when The Bachelorette returns on ABC.
