iZombie Review: Eat A Knievel (Season 3 Episode 8)
Is it possible for Liv to eat the brain of a person who wasn’t annoying when they were alive?
Liv takes on the personality of a Jackass-style prankster on iZombie Season 3 Episode 8, “Eat A Knievel.” Despite acting like an actual jackass the majority of the episode, I have to admit this particular brain does have its funny moments.
The case is pretty straight forward but still manages to hold my attention. A popular prankster, Finn, is killed during a stunt and the main suspect is his producer, Rudy. Finn had pulled a prank that went too far by pretending to have sex with Rudy’s girlfriend.
After initially freaking out, Rudy believed it was just a prank… until months later when she popped out a baby that didn’t quite look like him. As a result, he got so upset that he committed murder.
I feel like the writers are just making Liv eat these crazy brains so we can watch Clive watch her act like a fool. I will say, it’s effective. Clive’s deadpan reactions to Liv’s constantly changing personality brings me joy every week.
Watching Liv staple her own forehead is a hilarious sight to behold. Rose McIver manages to bring a level of comedic timing and physicality that keeps Liv engaging, even when she is taking on the personalities of ridiculous people.
After pretending/trying to be good, Blaine has decided to dive head first back into the villain pool. And honestly, I am thrilled Blaine is back to his old self.
He snapped out of his pining for Peyton the second he got shot. Blaine is a zombie once again and this is where David Anders really shines.
I’m not saying I don’t like him when he’s acting like a nice guy. But let’s be real, it’s always more fun playing the bad guy.
Blaine dispatches of his garbage father by putting his feet in cement and dropping him down a well. Blaine has been far from perfect, but somehow I feel like his father has more skeletons in his closet than he does. So no love lost there.
Not only is Blaine back to his old tricks, but he’s also stolen the brain supplying business right back from Don E. Thank God Blaine didn’t get rid of him too.
Vivian’s death is a shocker, but how can we be sure she’s truly dead? If she is, than this is frustrating development. Other than the brief scenes at Fillmore Graves, we haven’t gotten a better understanding of her true motivations.
Unless… maybe everything she has said was the truth and she’s not the villain we’ve been waiting for her to turn into this entire time. Perhaps her newly introduced brother-in-law, Chase, is the one we need to watch out for.
Hello, Jason Dohring!
I was ride or die for his character, Logan Echolls, on Veronica Mars. Needless to say, I am thrilled to have him join the show. Chase’s introduction makes it clear that he’s not messing around. Vivian was ambitious, but Chase seems more ready for action than she was.
Major’s now a human again, and it didn’t take long for Vivian to find out. Instead of kicking him out like I thought she would, she simply takes him out of active duty.
Somehow I doubt Chase will be as kind once he finds out his secret. Major needs a plan B fast.
Leftover Thoughts and Questions
- We end the episode with Ravi infiltrating the zombie-conspiracy theory group. I’m sure he’ll make it out okay, but he looks a little nervous as Liv leaves. I also love that they let Rose McIver look like her normal self without the bleached hair and powder-white skin for a couple of minutes.
- Justin and Liv find time to go on a date, and the chemistry is definitely there. I still think it’s too soon after Liv and Major’s night together, but maybe that’s just me.
- No movement on the stolen cure front, but I’m sure it’s only a matter of time.
