Tell-Tale TV Panel: Superstore Season 2

Tell-Tale TV Season Review Panels

We didn’t think it was possible, but Superstore managed to make us fall even more in love with the Cloud 9 staff. The second season was filled with laughs, surprises, and a whole lot of drama.

What did you think of the season overall? Join the discussion by leaving your thoughts in the comments below.

Our panelists are:

On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate the season overall?

Milka: Probably like 8. All in all, I really loved this season and can’t wait to see what season 3 brings along.

Nora: I agree with Milka and give it an 8. There were some really fantastic, relevant episodes that had something to say but still were hilarious.

Jasmine: Yes, I agree with the others. I give it an 8, too. They had some really great storylines and some good character development, and it was absolutely hilarious, too.

What was this season’s biggest mistake?

Milka: The break-up of Jeff and Mateo. Though I found the fake relationship between Jeff and Sandra funny enough, I would have loved to see more episodes of Jeff and Mateo being out in the open proudly!

Nora: This isn’t really a mistake, but the biggest problem I have with Superstore, is Glenn. He can be funny and sweet, but Glenn for me, is really only tolerable in small doses.

Jasmine: I agree Milka! I wanted to see more of Mateo and Jeff, and I felt like there was more emphasis on the Sandra aspect to play up the comic relief. I also hate that Mateo had to keep coming off like the jealous type when had valid reasons for being annoyed.

What worked really well this season?

Milka: The slow burn interactions between Jonah and Amy. I love how their relationship develops throughout the season, and I almost burst from excitement while watching their shared scenes during the last two episodes of the season.

The ending of the final episode kind of broke my heart though.

Nora: I agree with Milka about Jonah and Amy. I also think that there has been some great character development with some of the other Cloud 9 employees so we’re starting to know them and love them too.

Jasmine: I agree with the others about Jonah and Amy, but mostly just the character development in general. I feel like we finally know some of them whereas before we only had glimpses.

They did a fantastic job with character development this season and making all the characters more multi-dimensional rather than one-note caricatures, which they easily could be. If I had to choose one person in particular, I have to say Dina killed it all season. I never expected to love her as much as I do.

What was the biggest surprise of the season?

Milka: The budding relationship between Gina and Garrett. At first I was feeling a bit “meh” about them, but now I really want to see whether they could actually work out.

Nora: Gina and Garrett was a huge surprise, but I was immediately on board with it. I was also surprised at how sharp (and sometimes dark) the comedy was. Season 1 was good but very by-the-book sitcom wise. Season 2 was more ballsy.

Jasmine: I did NOT expect the Dina and Garrett relationship at all. I probably should have took a selfie when they hooked up because their relationship was so unexpected my usual resting bitch face didn’t stand a chance. My jaw dropped and everything.  It was an even bigger surprise when I found that I actually liked them together.

What are your hopes for next season?

Milka: Seeing more of the interaction between Gina and Garrett. I also want that phone call Mateo made for Jeff during the tornado to be discussed further. And, of course, the relationship between Amy and Jonah should finally come into fruition.

Nora: Once again, I agree with Milka. I want to see all those things. Superstore has become one of my favorite shows, and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Jasmine: Someone needs to tell me if Brett is alive and ok! I also need to know if Sandra will continue her bad streak because I laughed harder than I should have when she closed the door on that irritating woman when the tornado was happening.

I can’t wait to see Jonah and Amy’s relationship develop further, and I want them to keep gradually getting closer. I’m not usually a die-hard shipper, but I love the two of them so much.

I’m really just excited to see what and how they’re going to carry on now that Cloud 9 has been demolished. I kind of want some fresh new faces too.
