‘New Girl’ Gets Bittersweet Final Season with Eight Episodes
Good news to the fans of the roommates of apartment 4D!
Fox announced on Sunday that New Girl will get a proper goodbye as Fox renews the show for its seventh season and final season.
Fox’s top brass were unsure of the fate of the Zooey Deschanel series, so New Girl ended Season 6 on an ambiguous note in early April, with the finale meant to serve as both a season and potential series-ender.

The seventh season will be the last time we’ll see Jess, Nick, Winston, and Schmidt, and while it’s a fitting conclusion, it’s also a truncated order.
Jake Johnson, who plays Nick Miller, took to Twitter on Sunday to celebrate the news of the final eight episodes.
#NewGirl has been picked up for 8 final episodes! Very excited to be able to finish what we started. Also Happy Mother's Day, ladies.

The Hollywood Reporter states that New Girl was one of the highest rated returning half-hours of television, averaging 1.6 million viewers in the 2016-2017 television season, and that the decision to end the series comes as a huge surprise since creator Liz Meriwether has been vocal about wanting to move on.
Variety also reports that “New Girl did not bring in big numbers its past season, but the show is an important property to Fox, being owned by 20th Century Fox TV and having made rich syndication deals over the years at TBS, MTV and Netflix.”

The Season 6 finale ended with Nick and Jess getting back together and Cece announcing that she’s pregnant. With each of the characters ready to move on, it will bittersweet to see them pack up the pack and transition into their next chapters.
