It seems the Baudelaires are in for even more woe than initially expected.

Last month, Netflix announced that they had renewed A Series Of Unfortunate Events for Season 2, but now TVLine reports that the renewal has been extended to include a Season 3.

Netflix has not publicly confirmed this information.

Season 1 of A Series of Unfortunate Events, which is based on the book series of the same name, covered the events of the series’ first four books, dedicating two episodes to each story.

If Season 2 and Season 3 were to follow the same format, the remaining nine books in the series could be covered in 18 episodes. Netflix has not yet announced how many episodes will be in Season 2 or Season 3.

In an interview with Paste Magazine, Daniel Handler, author of the books and executive producer and writer for the show, said the “dream” is to film Season 2 and Season 3 back-to-back so the younger actors don’t age too noticeably throughout the series.

Several cast members, including Malina Weissman (who plays Violet Baudelaire) and Avi Lake (who plays Isadora Quagmire), have recently returned to Vancouver to begin work on Season 2.

Season 1 ended with the Baudelaire orphans and two of the Quagmire triplets at Prufrock Preparatory School, the boarding school where the fifth book, “The Austere Academy,” takes place.

A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 1 is now streaming on Netflix.
