Bates Motel Review: Inseparable (Season 5 Episode 7)

Bates Motel, Reviews

The body count is catching up to Norman, and his defeat is slowly coming to light on Bates Motel Season 5 Episode 7 titled “Inseparable.”

With only three more episodes left of this psychological thriller series, the tensions are rising, and Norman is becoming more dangerous by the hour.

Oh yeah, and I’m officially over Mother.

Norman is suffering so deeply. The sad part about it is that he knows it as much as Dylan knows it when he finally returns to White Pine Bay to mourn his mother’s death and figure out what is happening with his troubled brother.

Mother’s influence on Norman’s psychological well-being goes through the roof on “Inseparable” as this episode pretty much explains the tragic relationship between this mother and son dynamic. They are ‘inseparable,’ but Norman wants out.

This episode of Bates Motel is powerful in ways where it makes you so nervous about Norman’s fate that is yet to come.

With every episode, I am saddened at Norman’s life. Of course, what he’s done so far is unjustifiable, but he’s ill, and he’s alone — all alone.

It’s clear that Dylan really does care for Norman, no matter the horrible circumstances that leads him to coming back to this edgy town.

Dylan wants what’s best for Norman, even though it hurts. This is the brother that has been ill-treated by his own mother and neglected from all the bonding he could have had with this family. Dylan has always had a good heart, and he shows how caring he can be for Norman.

A part of me wishes Dylan didn’t come back to town, but he is doing the right thing if you ask me.

However, his storyline has been sidelined for a bit this season. I wish we were able to have Dylan by Norman’s side early on and help him through this hard time.

Maybe things would have been different, maybe Norman would have been able to detach from Mother so quickly that he could actually go and receive the help that he needed.

Sadly, Mother wants to take matters into her own hands yet again and tries to kill Dylan because he was interfering. The scene where Norman fights Mother off from taking a stab at Dylan and then sees how he’s fighting with himself is probably the most heartbreaking scene of the episode.

Dylan’s reaction to it all breaks my heart. Norman turning into Mother while speaking to Dylan is a frightening moment, a moment where it shows how deeply Norman needs help.

This whole scene is chilling to watch because this time, Norman wasn’t dressed up as Mother, it was just Norman talking and arguing with himself with only the tone of his voice changing.

My question for the next final three episodes is how will everything pan out? How will Norman break from this fate that he’s holding from himself? What is Dylan going to do now that he escaped death?

This episode pretty much opens up for the next step of Norman’s story when he calls 911 and literally confesses to killing Sam Loomis.

He actually calls and says that. What a bold move, Norman.

This final season has been all kinds of crazy and all kinds of messed up. I really hope Norman is able to fight this because deep down you can tell he wants to. He is completely done with this.

Mother is no good for him anymore, not anymore.

Other thoughts:

  • We still have Alex Romero to worry about. He’s been MIA for a while now, and he’s still out for his vengeance.
  • Madeline Loomis is the carbon copy of Norma. It’s scary. Did you see the way that she turned around when she encountered Dylan? Creepy!
  • I’m very curious as to where Chick is. His weirdness adds on an interesting layer to this show.
