iZombie Review: Eat, Pray, Liv (Season 3 Episode 3)

iZombie, Reviews

Oh Ravi! Why are you doing this to yourself?

Ravi is normally a wonderful human-being, but his darker side rears its ugly head on iZombie Season 3 Episode 3, “Eat, Pray, Liv.” It’s understandable thinking about Peyton “doing stuff” with Blaine would make Ravi crazy.

However, instead of handling the situation like an adult, he ends up pushing Peyton further away and probably back into Blaine’s arms.

Despite being a character the audience can easily identify and sympathize with, the writers manage to make Ravi’s actions seem unaware and self-sabotaging. The entire situation is not pleasant.

At least we don’t have to watch Ravi sulk and over-analyze for another episode. The problem is he needs to come to a place where he is not only sorry for his actions, but truly understands where he went wrong with Peyton.

Truthfully, Ravi has no right to be upset with Peyton for sleeping with Blaine. They weren’t together at the time, and Peyton didn’t know who Blaine really was.

Peyton’s choices are her own. She doesn’t owe Ravi an apology for doing something that had nothing to do with him. That’s what makes his attempt at an apology early on in the installment all the more painful to watch.

You can’t even really call it an apology. He basically tries to say he’s sorry for being a bad friend, but he can’t stop imagining Peyton with Blaine.

Peyton: Your opinion on this matter is irrelevant.

I’m so glad Peyton stands up for herself in that moment. She can tell Ravi is expecting her to say she’s sorry for making him feel so terribly. Peyton doesn’t give him that satisfaction.

Ravi’s downward spiral continues when the group realizes Major is on borrowed time and they need to test out the new serum for restoring memory loss. Ravi pushes Blaine to take the serum instead of making Major the guinea pig.

When Blaine refuses, not wanting to remember his villainous past, Ravi lashes out in front of everyone telling Blaine he owes them for what’s done. Peyton quickly comes to Blaine’s defense, which pushes Ravi even further.

Peyton demands to know why he’s acting like such a jerk, and Ravi shouts it’s because he’s in love with her. Terrible timing!

As if Ravi’s outburst isn’t hard enough to watch, later on Peyton stops by his place to talk. Her statement that Ravi is the real reason why they haven’t worked out yet is completely true.

Despite wanting to desperately be with Peyton, Ravi’s actions have gotten in the way of whatever happiness they could share. In his sad, drunken state, Ravi apologizes again She must be a saint because when he goes in for the kiss, she reciprocates.

Unfortunately, Peyton finds Katty in the the kitchen wearing only a shirt. Why Ravi? Why?

In the immortal words of Tyra Banks:

iZombie Review: Eat, Pray, Liv (Season 3 Episode 3)

First of all, does Ravi not remember he just slept with Katty? Second of all, if he does remember, why would he let Peyton just barge into the house?

Sleeping with his old boss is going to drive a deeper wedge into his friendship/relationship with Peyton. A reconciliation seems unlikely right now.

It’s obvious Peyton wishes to make a romantic relationship work with Ravi, but now she has nothing holding her back from being with Blaine. Speaking of Blaine, I’m curious how many people think he’s still faking the amnesia.

Blaine is a master manipulator, so I’m expecting him to drop the charade at any given moment. However, there is always the possibility that the amnesia is legit.

Nothing would please Ravi more than Blaine faking the memory loss. Other than the fact that it would mean Major could take the cure and be just fine, it would also mean Blaine could never officially be with Peyton.

If it comes out that he’s lying, Peyton will reject him and most likely get back together with Ravi. Part of me wants Ravi to be vindicated, but the other part of me thinks the love triangle would be more complex if Blaine works hard at being the good guy.

While Ravi’s personal life is going up in flames, Major’s health starts to show signs of failing. It’s kind of unreal that Major could be in training while also coughing up a lung.

Taking the cure would mean losing his memories, which he very much wants to keep. It makes sense why Blaine wouldn’t want the serum since he has no reason to want to remember who he was before.

But Major has a lot of wonderful memories and people he loves. He only has two choices at this point. He either takes the cure and lives but forgets everything, or he doesn’t take the cure and dies.

Obviously Blaine lying about the amnesia would mean Major could take the cure and be fine, but that would potentially be the end of that story line. I’m not sure what way the writers want to go.

Elsewhere in the Episode

  • The case of the week is pretty lackluster. The death of the yoga instructor doesn’t hold my attention.
  • Liv becoming all Zen has its humorous moments, but nothing like Major on teenage girl brain on iZombie Season 3 Episode 2.
  • Katty is putting the puzzle pieces together very quickly. It seems insane for Ravi and Liv to discuss and prepare brains when Katty could walk through the door at any moment.
  • Blaine’s father is terrible. It’s still a little unclear to me what he wants from the club, appropriately named The Scratching Post. It appears he may be trying to steal the brain selling business from his son, considering the club looks like it will be zombies-only.
  • There’s something suspicious to me about the brain tubes Fillmore Graves has their mercenaries on. Could they be laced with something we have yet to discover?
