The Magicians Review: The Girl Who Told Time (Season 2 Episode 10)
The Magicians Season 2 Episode 10, “The Girl Who Told Time,” pushes Kady and Penny to work together, as well as give Quentin a look at how to bring Julia’s shade back.
On last week’s episode, “Lesser Evils,” Julia throws Quentin to his death with no remorse of what might happen to him. Now, it’s all she can think about.
Even without her shade, Julia knows what she’s doing. She just doesn’t have any emotional pull to help her control her actions. It’s refreshing to see her work so hard alongside Quentin and Dean Fogg to figure out where her shade is located.

I’ll admit, watching Quentin eat a magical pot brownie with there being so much to do is infuriating. But, it ended up getting the job done and him that much closer to finding Julia’s shade.
Having to watch Quentin stand next to Alice from another dimension, pouring his heart out to her, and wanting to kiss her is pure torture. Quentin’s love for Alice isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
If Quentin didn’t love Alice, he would not of let her stay inside of him so long. Having Alice trapped inside of his body was literally killing him, but he couldn’t stand not having her there with him. Even if it was an Alice who was out of control and constantly getting him into trouble.
While Julia, Quentin, and Dean Fogg have been going back in time trying to find shades, Penny and Kady have been doing The Order’s dirty work.
I feel as if Penny and Kady will never be the same with each other again. Kady has this thing deep down where she can’t get over the fact she left and became a hedge witch, so she won’t let Penny close to her again.

Anything that Penny does or says is automatically taken the wrong way by Kady almost as if it’s a reflex to just lash at him. I’m going to need her to get over this and realize that he cares for her immensely. Why else would he sign his life away to help her?
Also, why would the library lie to Kady and tell her that there aren’t any books on killing gods when there are? Reynard is a psychotic god who is raping and killing innocent women. Surely they don’t want to keep a monster like him alive.

Moving onto Margo. Shame, shame, and more shame. Margo is my favorite character by far, but what she did is entirely messed up. This is what it looks like to love a character, but not put up with their bullshit.
A lot of people seem to think that just because you love a particular character you have to defend them on every action. Nope!
Margo did the right thing by telling Fen about the deal she made with the fairies, but she did it all wrong. Instead of just blurting it out to Fen and expecting her to get over it or deal with it, she should’ve sat her down and explained why she did it.
I can’t support this non-caring Margo that we see throughout the entire episode. She cares, but only about the truth getting out.
As for Fen, I don’t think that she’s been off just because of the fairies. Eliot is marrying another man, bringing someone new to her bed, and is still not showing her any affection. Eliot cares for Fen, but not in the way she would like.
The only time he’s truly shown her any affection was the one time he had sex with her and that was only because he was really sleeping with another man. Let’s face it, Fen feels betrayed, but she isn’t going to show her real emotions.
Speaking of betrayal, Eliot can make up any excuse he wants, but we all know that he feels betrayed because Quentin left him. Instead of staying and helping plan the wedding Quentin ran off to help Julia like he always does.

“The Girl Who Told Time” is an intense episode that pushes plot lines further just in time for the final three episodes of Season 2.
Other Thoughts:
- It’s going to be interesting to see Quentin and Julia make their way to the underworld to get Julia’s shade back.
- Maybe I just didn’t pay attention enough, but I thought that Penny was supposed to have all of his magic back for working with The Order? Why are his hands still messed up?
- The fairies have taken Fen, which leads to the question: who will save her? Margo or Eliot?
