Supergirl Review: Exodus (Season 2 Episode 15)

Reviews, Supergirl

After several disappointing episodes during the second half of Season 2, Supergirl Season 2 Episode 15, “Exodus,” is an episode that reminds us of all the reasons we love Supergirl.

“Exodus” is nearly a perfect episode aside from a few remaining flaws.

The core of Supergirl was originally the relationship between Kara and Alex, a dynamic which had seemed to fall to the back burner in the past several weeks. “Exodus” has these two front and center again shifting their relationships with others to be secondary.

A timely episode, “Exodus” centers around Cadmus’ plot to use the Alien Registry to forcibly deport as many aliens as they can round up and send out of the solar system.

Kara and Alex’s stories overlap as Kara searches for the aliens who’ve been taken and Alex works to find and extract her father from Cadmus without him being arrested by the DEO. Alex and Kara both choose to follow their instincts against their authority figures.

Alex relies on her emotions and crosses DEO lines to protect her father. On the surface it appears that she’s going too far, for a man they aren’t even sure they can trust. Her actions actually work out in her favor however when she finds the aliens who’ve been taken and successfully stops the deportation with Kara.

Supergirl Review: Exodus (Season 2 Episode 15)

Kara is not so lucky. After her job at CatCo has been virtually nonexistent since Cat left, she works hard on “Exodus” to get an article about the Cadmus abductions on the front page. Lena and Mon El convince her to go rogue in order to get the story out when Snapper is unsatisfied with her sources.

Snapper’s very existence makes us desperate for the return of Cat Grant, who would never have let this happen. Cat would have fostered a strong, passionate work ethic in Kara and pushed her to be the very best reporter she’s capable of becoming.

Snapper however has been combative, condescending and dismissive, pushing Kara to break the rules in order to get her stories out.

Hopefully Kara being fired isn’t just an elaborate way for Supergirl to stop pretending to put effort into her life outside the DEO. Kara’s career as a reporter is important to her and her job at CatCo is one of the foundations of Supergirl, let’s not sacrifice that for the sake of a boyfriend.

Hands down, the best moment of “Exodus” is the beautiful Danvers Sisters scene when Kara draws her strength from Alex in order to stop the ship. More Danvers Sisters moments every week please!

OTHER THOUGHTS:

  • Maggie is ride or die for Alex, and their scenes are incredibly adorable on “Exodus.”
  • Kara catching Lena from falling is the most extra thing I’ve ever seen and I need it to happen on a weekly basis. If they’re gearing up to make Lena a villain and not Kara’s bff and/or girlfriend I will be sorely disappointed.
  • Eliza Danvers > Jeremiah Danvers. Sorry, not sorry.
  • J’onn Jones is Alex’s real father, where it counts. I won’t be convinced otherwise.
  • Winn’s romance is adorable, I just wish they’d given us more of the two of them being cute nerds before this instead of 3 episodes of sexcapades.
  • Can we get more James please? Anytime Mon El has more screentime than James is a colossal waste of time.
  • Speaking of James, does he know Kara got fired? Why isn’t he doing his day job? I feel like he, nor Cat would have let this happen.
  • Part of the reason this episode is so good is because Mon El was barely in it.
  • Teri Hatcher and Kevin Sorbo are playing his parents!!! How did Hercules and Lois Lane create someone so obnoxious?! Mon El’s backstory just got 100% more interesting with his star studded parents.
