Jane the Virgin Review: Chapter Fifty-Seven (Season 3 Episode 13)

Jane the Virgin, Reviews

This time jump may be getting a bit out of hand, don’t you think?

Jane The Virgin Season 3 Episode 13 comes as an episode that has been going all over the place, and at some point I sort of lost track of what was going on.

“Chapter Fifty-Seven” feels different — different in a way where everything just feels rushed,  and then some.

Rafael and Abbey break up, and I couldn’t seem to care less, because who’s Abbey again?

We didn’t have time to actually know who she is, and now she and Rafael are broken up? She has been side-lined that’s for sure. The one episode where she actually gets more screen-time is when her relationship with Rafael comes to an end.

However, after pulling that stunt, and sending a card to Dennis advising him to reopen the investigation on Scott’s murder, I’m starting think she has some shadiness in her.

Or maybe she’s just really mad that Rafael didn’t want her to move in with her.

Yeah, that could be it.

We also see Petra and Chuck’s potential relationship go downhill. Her guilt takes over and she tries to be honest with Chuck about moving Scott’s skeleton towards his side of the hotel.

It’s like whenever something decent comes into Petra’s life, something has to go wrong and mess it up.

It’s crazy.

I feel like she has been unhappy since the start of the series, and even in this time jump it has yet to last more than two episodes.

We also learn about Jane’s book and its main focus. It’s geared towards her relationship with Michael, set in 1902 in Miami.

The whole ‘going back to the early 1900s’ is kind of boring.

I don’t exactly know why. It doesn’t seem to fit with the episode, and I found myself trying to keep track with what I was watching.

Rafael is incorporated into Jane’s novel quite a few times, and it gives out the assumption that Jane has some complicated feelings towards him. But then again, I’m sure it is just for the storytelling of her book, because she still has Michael in her heart and that won’t go away for a while.

Rogelio’s storyline is uninteresting right now, and I’m wondering when it will start to get interesting again. This lawsuit ordeal is just not catching my attention.

Bruce proposes to Xo in front of Rogelio, and he watches in what seems like obvious heartbreak as Xo says yes.

C’mon now, I thought Rogelio was over Xo.

We don’t need a continued love triangle.

Also, Bruce is kind of growing on me. He seems like a good fit for Xo and the fact that he goes to see Alba and Jane before then for their blessings is a sweet touch.

I hope Rogelio does happen to find some solid ground because right now he’s just in this big pile of mess.

Other stray thoughts:

  • I love how all the people who Jane trusts are women.
  • Where’s Anezka?
  • Mateo is just too cute beyond words. His dialogue with Rafael and Jane are always nice and adorable to watch.
  • Rafael is acting really suspicious. Please don’t tell me he’s trying to frame Petra!
