Jane The Virgin Review: Chapter Fifty-Nine (Season 3 Episode 15)

Jane the Virgin, Reviews

Love is in the air…

Or so it seems.

Jane The Virgin Season 3 Episode 15, “Chapter Fifty-Nine,” delivers an extra dose of funny as we go through the motions of all things love and some good old flirting alerts.

It sure did give me a laugh or two.

As we know, it’s been three years since the passing of Michael in this time jump, and the writers wanted to get Jane out there and dating again. Jane looks very enthusiastic about it but also nervous, which is to be expected.

But for us viewers it’s only been a few weeks since Michael died, so the heartbreak is still there for us.

Jane’s optimism in almost every episode of Jane The Virgin is nice to watch — even when she knows she isn’t fully up to it, she most certainly likes to try.

What shocks me the most is Jane trying to see if there was something between her and Dennis.

Well, that was random!

In previous episodes we were able to see them reconcile their friendship due to some miscommunication.

For a second there, I thought something happened between them back then, and I was relieved that it didn’t.

However, now we see them go on a date to see if it could actually work out, and it ends up being a slight mess. Glad that didn’t happen, though.

As much as I want Jane to be happy and eventually find someone new, I think the writers should take some time with this, instead of her heart-eyeing every other person she sees who is super-duper hot.

Like the actor who will be co-starring with Rogelio on his new show.

Really? He wasn’t THAT hot.

Though I do get a lot of humor out of the flirt assessment radar that is a recurring bit on this episode, with its intriguing background music. I love when the show adds comedy like this — it makes it that more enjoyable to watch.

Meanwhile, Petra is trying to win back Chuck by not only trying to make him jealous by pretend flirting with Rafael, but she also goes on that bull-dog machine and loses a tooth!

All of this coming from Petra sure seems like she isn’t going down without a fight.

Also, old Petra would never have done this, so seeing this side to her is a step up from that soft heart she likes to keep hidden.

Following the aftermath of Rafael and Petra’s unexpected hook-up, it seems pretty obvious that Rafael is digging Petra again, and I actually ship it.

Unfortunately, Petra isn’t interested, but how can she resist Rafael?

I wouldn’t mind having Rafael and Petra rekindle their relationship again. They were married once, so it’s not like they are starting something completely new.

Besides, we never actually got to see them IN love when we first met them.

There’s something about their dynamic that I enjoy watching — it’s like they compliment each other in areas you least expect.

As far as Rafael and Jane ever getting back together…I just really, really enjoy them being friends.

Only that.

They have this great friendship and teamwork going on that seems to be looking very healthy for both of them and Mateo. Leave it at that for now.

The way that Jane The Virgin delivers its comedic commentary is always so pleasing to watch.

Particularly in this episode, this show really knows how to uplift you and give you a good laugh after a long day.

Other thoughts:

  • Zen Rafael is forever hot, hot, hot. How will I get over this?
  • Rogelio and Xiomara are back together now. Will it be for good this time?
  • Okay, but did they just indicate that Jane’s vagina was glowing when she saw Rogelio’s co-star? THIS SHOW IS TOO MUCH.
  • I really hope they can fix Petra’s missing tooth problem. She looks like a fashionable hillbilly with that missing tooth.
  • “Chapter Fifty-Nine” feels like a filler episode, but I enjoyed it.
