20 Reasons ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ is Timeless

16. We’ll Never Get Tired of Vampires

Vampires are pretty much everywhere you look in popular culture. In fact, it’s ironic that The Vampire Diaries is airing its series finale on the 20th anniversary of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Stories of those creatures have changed and evolved since before Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and there’s no sign that vampires will go out of style any time soon. — Ashley

17. Something for Everyone

Buffy the Vampire Slayer will have an audience as long as awkward nerdy girls in high school need hope that some day a cute guy will fall as hard for them as hard Oz did for Willow. — Ali

18. The Big Bads

Let’s face it. Buffy the Vampire Slayer‘s villains are pretty fascinating, and the structure of having a major big bad for each season is a way to make them all the more complex. And there’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of watching those evils be defeated by Buffy and the Scoobies. — Ashley

19. Grey Areas and Evolution

There are a lot of shows where the hero isn’t quite the shining standard of good, but no show came close to showing the true mutably grey nature of humanity than a supernatural show about a teenage girl fighting vampires.

Cordelia went from a selfish queen bee to a half-demon who helped the helpless. Simple and simpering Wesley becomes a bad-ass demon hunter. Kind-hearted Willow transforms into black-hearted Dark Willow. Anya, Spike, Andrew, Dawn, Jonathan, The Mayor, Faith! (can’t forget about Faith).

All of these characters came into the show one way and evolved into entirely unrecognizable human beings by the end. None of them were ever entirely good or entirely bad. They were doing their best. — James

20. It’s Influence

Buffy the Vampire Slayer influence on popular culture is undeniable. Shows like Supernatural, Veronica Mars, and iZombie show distinct similarities, as does, of course, The Vampire Diaries.

In fact, it’s also pretty clear that Twilight took a couple of notes from Buffy the Vampire Slayer as well.  — Ashley Bissette Sumerel
