Growing Up McGhee Recap: I Don’t Know If I Want to Laugh or Cry (Season 2 Episode 8)
Growing Up McGhee Season 2 Episode 8, “I Don’t Know If I Want to Laugh or Cry,” is another episode full of new experiences for the McGhee children.
Mia has plans with her longtime friend, Summer. So, as the kids eat their chicken noodle soup, Mia gathers everything for them before dropping them off with Ro at work.
She has a full-time job just taking care of the kids and the house, but on top of that, she also helps out at the family business and helps Ro lead a church. It’s safe to say that there is never a moment where she can fully relax unless she’s sleeping.
Mia McGhee is one busy woman who deserves a break.
Mia drops the children off with Ro and makes her way to the coffee shop where she meets up with her friend, Summer, who she’s known for the past thirty years.
Getting to sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee with no other distractions is, in my opinion, one of the joys the world has to offer. Like Mia, I don’t ever have the time to sit down and enjoy coffee. But, when I do, oh boy is it the best feeling ever.
Mia and Summer reminisce about the good times they used to have when they were fifteen, all while Ro is struggling with the kids.
At the business, Ro has put the children to work and even made them their own clock in sheets. This is an important thing for Ro because when the children get older, he wants to be able to tell them that his business is the first business they ever worked for.
Sweet, sentimental things like this are why Growing Up McGhee is a show that should never end.
Back at the coffee shop, Mia is discussing the importance of going back to school. She went and got her associates, but she wants to finish her degree. She had to stop to have the children, but now nothing is stopping her from going back.
Mia makes a good point in this episode. Going back to school is always an option! Most people who stop going to college often never return because life gets in the way or they feel like going back just isn’t an option. It’s always an option.
This alone sets a good example for viewers everywhere. Mia may just be speaking with her friend, but to family’s, or even individual people, that watch Growing Up McGhee, she’s an encouragement striving for the best.
The next day, Mia and Ro decide to sign the kids up for a painting class to see if they were as skilled in the arts as they are music. Josiah and Ro Jr. get into it, but the rest of the kids mainly just waste time.
While the other children in the class were putting their stuff up, the McGhee’s were painting their hands, clothes, and tables. Listening is something that they are going to have to work on.
At home, Mia throws the kids’ clothes in the washer while Ro gets the sleeping bags out and scatters them in the floor of the living room.
The kids continue to want to have sleepovers with friends, so Mia and Ro decide to have a family sleepover full of popcorn, games, and scary stories.
The episode ends with the McGhee family, besides Ro who went upstairs, sleeping on the living room floor together.
Watching the McGhees makes me reminisce of the things that I used to do when I was a child with my family. Bringing back those old memories is one of my favorite things about watching Growing Up McGhee.
