The Magicians Review: Divine Elimination (Season 2 Episode 3)

Reviews, The Magicians

The Magicians Season 2 Episode 3, “Divine Elimination, ” the show finally finds its good form. It delivers what it promises in the trailers.

The series gets some serious spell weaving battles going, and blood is drawn. There is talk about fornication with horses and all kinds of games. But alas, only talk. Wait, there’s a jizz hunt, but I won’t go into detail as it’s over before it’s finished.

Here, we learn the logic about one dick being less fruitful than three dicks, as a way to say more hands in magic are better than one hand. I dare not mention butts being pierced. Well, oops I did.

In a way, The Magicians is a major tease.

“Divine Elimination” returns with the curse over the court of Fillory and all the kings and queens of the land are at each others throats. It literally ends with all royalty being killed.

Of course, the king and queens of Fillory aren’t really dead, like really dead, dead. They are using the lore from Pulp Fiction as a way of being revived.

This is a phenomenon any role-player knows of. If your friend dies, find a healer who can resurrect your friend. Easy as pie.

So the only non royalty, who by the way,  is only thumbs, gets it all right with a little help from a friend. Penny to the rescue!

The Magicians Season 2 episode 3 Review: Divine Elimination | Tell-Tale TV

For a while, the curse runs its course. But this isn’t the divine elimination the title refers to. The deity of the trickster Reynard is of course what it’s all about.

Julia and the Beast, with the help of Marina, are doing their best in beating the hedge-witch-raping, heart-eating,  god of evil. In this battle, we end up seeing Marina giving Reynard the finger. Yes, that’s the honest truth.

I did mention in an earlier review that The Magicians never feels dangerous. I take that back.

On “Divine Elimination,” our goddess, and queen Alice Quinn is overpowered in the fight with  The Beast, and in the process, bites the dust. From the dust, something rises and sends The Beast fluttering away, moth by moth, leaving a carcass behind.

My gripes with The Magicians have been the tone switches. On “Divine Elimination” it works, it balances the dark macabre bits with some humor. The dialogue however, is filled with one liners perfect for captions and quotes. Basically it’s click-bait for picture reviews. And those can be really funny! Don’t knock it till you have read one.

I complained about plot holes in the season premiere, but on “Divine Elimination” I found none.

In a way this is descriptive of “Divine Elimination.” Light lures the beings of the night, and Alice Quinn has been burning with a very bright light.

Now, where is that resurrection spell?
