Shadowhunters Review: How Are Thou Fallen (Season 2 Episode 7)
Shadowhunters Season 2 Episode 7, “How Are Thou Fallen,” dives into Izzy’s new storyline and shows a bump in the road for Magnus and Alec.
Izzy is hitting rock bottom. Not only has the Yin Fen made Izzy addicted, but it’s changing the way she acts.
If I’m honest, I don’t like this storyline. Out of everything that could’ve happened to Izzy, she gets addicted to drugs that may kill her? I don’t like it.
Izzy continues to have people tell her that Yin Fen is very dangerous and is not something to be messed with, but she continues to do so. It’s not because she doesn’t know how to quit, either. If she wanted to stop and get help all she would have to do is report Aldertree and that would be that.
I don’t like to see Izzy like this because she is better. She is better than going to Simon and trying to convince him to bite her. She is better than tracking down a drug dealer to get more. She is better than going to a vampire den alone.
This Izzy is reckless and will ultimately get herself killed because she is not thinking correctly.
Izzy is in complete pain from withdrawals. However, the fact that Alec talking about his sex life gets her to laugh and smile is amusing and gives me hope. It lets us know that deep down the real Izzy is still there. She just has to figure out a way to get past the drugs.
Meanwhile, Clary is acting up, yet again. This season has done nothing but paint Clary in a bad lighting with the way she is acting. The most infuriating thing is her tazing Luke to help Cleophas escape.
I mean, seriously?
Luke, the guy who has been there for you since you were a baby, is the guy you’re going to betray? The way Clary is acting is just purely ridiculous.
Does Clary freeing Cleophas end up leading them to the kidnapped angel? Yes. But, that doesn’t change the fact that she flat out betrayed Luke and didn’t listen to him.
What did she think she was going to do? Just take Cleophas to Valentine and kill him herself? Yeah, okay.

As for Simon, I’m glad that he and Maia finally hashed out what’s going on between them. But, I don’t like that it ends up with them not being together and Maia pushing him to pursue Clary.
Simon and Clary are best friends and need to be nothing more. It’s ridiculous that Simon starts hanging out with Maia, getting out there, and now Clary is sending mixed signals.
Simon and Maia could be the next power couple, but nope, instead, the show is going to try and push Climon.
Speaking of relationships: Malec. Okay, I am in love with Malec as much as the next person. Seriously, if there were ever a spin-off of the show, I would be completely okay with it just being Magnus and Alec. But, their relationship in this episode is a little off putting.
This is Alec’s first relationship, so Magnus, understandably, doesn’t want to move very fast and risk anything. My problem is that Magnus tells Alec that he’s vulnerable and doesn’t want to go fast, yet Alec thinks it’s all about him and doesn’t listen.
Alec doesn’t even consider for a second how Magnus feels about having sex with him. Yes, Magnus has been with over 17,000 people, but he admitted to Alec that he’s never felt this way about anyone before. He doesn’t even remember the last time someone bought him a gift like Alec does.
Magnus’ feelings matter just as much as Alec’s, and sometimes Alec doesn’t put that into consideration just because Magnus is more experienced.
It’s not confirmed that Magnus and Alec have sex, but I hope that in the next episode they reveal that it never happened. I want the both of them to be on the same page and in a mutual agreement before something so serious happens between the two of them.
Other Thoughts:
- Clary and Jace’s fight scene on top of the room is one of my favorite scenes from the entire season, so far.
- I wish the Simon + Jace bar interaction would have been under different circumstances.
- I do like that Maia shut Simon down after he acted the way Jace told him to. Not everyone likes the mysterious, brooding jerk.
