Beloved TV actress Mary Tyler Moore passed away today at age 80. She was taken off life support on Tuesday after being on a respirator for a week.

Her death was ultimately caused by cardiopulmonary arrest after contracting pneumonia, The New York Times reports.

Moore’s longtime representative Mara Buxbaum issued the following statement to TMZ: “Today, beloved icon, Mary Tyler Moore, passed away at the age of 80 in the company of friends and her loving husband of over 33 years, Dr. S. Robert Levine.”

“A groundbreaking actress, producer, and passionate advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Mary will be remembered as a fearless visionary who turned the world on with her smile.”

Former co-star Ed Asner tweeted the following:

The TV icon signified a new era of television in the 1970s. She was best known for her roles as Mary Richards on The Mary Tyler Moore show and Laurie Petrie on The Dick Van Dyke Show.

She won a total of seven Emmy Awards, five of which were for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. In 2012, she earned the Screen Actors Guild’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
