Growing Up McGhee Recap: I’m Not Ready for This (Season 2 Episode 1)
The McGhee family is back and better than ever. Growing Up McGhee Season 2 Episode 1, “I’m Not Ready for This,” picks back up in early August, just in time for school to start back.
First things first: new clothes. Mia and Ro know that this time comes every year, but it never gets any easier when having to shop for sextuplets. As the kids each get up and going, Mia and Ro make them go one by one, trying on all of their old clothes to see what can still fit and what needs to go.
Josiah, the biggest brother, is almost always guaranteed to get new clothes every year due to how fast he grows, which means that the clothes he can’t fit will go to another brother. The best way to save money when having to buy new clothes: hand-me-downs.
To younger kids hand-me-downs aren’t fun, but for parents, it’s a great way to save a lot of money. Hand-me-downs were a ritual in my household that my mom loved, too.
Mia, Ro, and the kids make their way to the mall as they show us just how expensive it is to have to buy clothes, shoes, backpacks, and school supplies for six children. So, to save money, Mia and Ro plan their mall trip for when they know that there is a good sale.
You can never beat a good sale at the mall.
Tensions rise between the kids at the mall when the sextuplets make it known that they no longer want to dress alike, which is normal. As kids grow older, they usually don’t want to be the same as their brothers and sisters. But when you’re only six, you don’t get to choose things like that.
On top of wanting to be different, Madison and Olivia stroll around the mall and end up taking a liking to the bras in the store, but Mia and Ro shut it down quick and fast. There will be no bras at the age of six.
As the time for school gets closer and closer Mia, and Ro decide that it’s finally time to inform the children that they will have to repeat kindergarten, and it goes about how you’d expect.
No kid wants to have their friends progress and move on without them. Isaac is the one who fully understands what’s happening and doesn’t take it well. It’s a sad day in the McGhee household, but it’s always better to do it earlier rather than later.
Deciding to hold the children back is not an easy choice at all. At the end of the day, the right thing was for the children to repeat the year because, like their teacher pointed out, had they been full-term babies they wouldn’t have even started kindergarten yet. Holding children back isn’t necessarily a bad thing — contrary to popular belief. Repeating kindergarten will give the kids a chance to grow, mature, and develop to be even more ready for first grade next year.
The first day of school – vacation for Mia and Ro – arrives, and an uninvited guest makes an appearance. The uninvited guest? A grasshopper.
Mia does not do bugs in any way, shape, or form. So, she has Ro Jr. come downstairs to remove the bug for her, which leads to him wanting to keep it in his bug collection. Almost every little boy has a bug collection at one point. I did and so did my brothers.
As the kids have their first day at school Mia and Ro spend the day at home, relaxing and enjoying some peace and quiet. Silence is golden.
As the school day ends and the children get picked up, the sextuplets go on and on about how their first day went. Because everyone was so good at school Mia and Ro decide that the kids have deserved a trip to get some ice cream. There’s no better way to reward a child for good behavior.
Having a good, old-fashioned ice cream picnic after a long day at school is always a good way to end the day. The kids all love their teachers, thoroughly enjoy school, and are excited to learn. This school year looks like it’s going to be a good one for the McGhee family.
