Growing Up McGhee Recap: Apple Bruisers and Abusers (Season 2 Episode 3)

Growing Up McGhee, Recaps

After six years of having the same wallpaper, Mia and Ro decide to shake things up by painting the house on Growing Up McGhee Season 2 Episode 3, “Apple Bruisers and Abusers.”

Painting with children is never an easy thing, especially when you have six. Things start off great, only to go in a downward spiral when the kids start getting paint everywhere.

The kids get paint on the wood, the curtains, and even their hair before Mia steps in and stops the nonsense. She is the voice of reason while the kids are covering paint all over the floors.

Now, Ro is gone to work, and the kids are left with Mia all alone while they have no school. You know what that means, right? Cleaning time! Yup, Mia takes advantage of the extra hands and puts the kids to work. But, that doesn’t last for too long before the kids start getting rowdy again.

Mia’s next plan for the children is to take them apple picking so they can make a homemade apple pie.

To keep the kids acting in a civil manner, she implements a grading scale. If the children are good and mind her, they get a star, and if they start to act up, they get an X.

Mia and the kids arrive at the apple farm, and it goes just how you would assume.

The kids run amuck, throwing apples in different directions, and eating random ones they find. Mia initially put aside an hour to pick apples, but they only stay for about ten minutes because by then they already have four bags worth.

To run some of the kids’ energy off, she takes them to a park and corn maze nearby. The kids enjoy walking through the unfamiliar terrain until it begins to rain. They all make their way back to the car to get out of the rain.

Before they can make their way home, Mia has to stop off at the front and pay for all of the apples that the kids picked.

And that’s when Mia’s long day gets even longer. A majority of the bags begin to rip while heading inside, with apples flying all over the gravel.

Mia may have bruised apples with rocks in them, but they got through it. She survived all six kids out in a public space. So, now it’s time to head on home and get to baking.

One of the things that I love about Growing Up McGhee is you get to see little everyday actions. They don’t try to make it look like their lives are perfect and glamorous. They are real, ordinary people. The only difference is the fact that they have six children.

Baking pies from scratch are hard enough, but adding in six little hands makes it even harder. So, to try and get the kids to settle down, Mia gets the caramel out and lets the children sit down and eat apples and caramel.

But, once again, it takes a matter of five minutes before the caramel is all over the place.

After cleaning up the kids’ mess, Mia goes back to pie making, until she realizes that she never picked up any butter. Dealing with children all day scrambles your brain and makes you forget things, and that’s what happens to Mia. Things look like a loss until Mia’s friend saves the day and brings her some butter.

Soon after Boogie, Mia’s friend arrives the pie gets baked, and it’s time to clean. Before Mia can even finish cleaning Ro walks in and admires the sights.

“Apple Bruisers and Abusers” ends on a happy note for the McGhees, with pie and smiles all around.
