Sweet/Vicious Season 1 Episode 5 “All Eyez on Me,” finally takes a leap forward in its hero journey by capturing Ophelia on video and exposing what’s been going on in Darlington.

That’s going to turn out well, right?

This turn of events is a stepping stone for every hero story out there. Now the stakes are higher and people are aware that there’s someone fighting back against injustices and taking a stand.

Sadly, men/women who prey and assault others won’t just stop what they’re doing because Jules and Ophelia are out there. (Well some will because they’re BAMF’s.) A lot of the people out there committing these despicable crimes will instead be ready for our girls.

Things just got more dangerous for Jules and Ophelia!

Their discovery and major slip up was because of Ophelia finally understanding how scary and real, what they’re doing, really is. This isn’t a serious turn of events with an underlying tone of fun times.

What Jules and Ophelia are doing is scary, dangerous, and life changing.

Ophelia chases after that man who made her feel powerless and not in control because she was angry and shaken up. She had to get back what she lost, and because of it, she set both of them down a dangerous path.

On the bright side of things, “All Eyez on Me” takes some major steps in the Jyler (Jules/Tyler) relationship.

We’re moving past the puppy dog eyes and cute smiles stage into uncharted waters where family problems, trauma, and interpersonal issues play out.

Where you might expect Jules and Tyler to fail, they succeed. Instead of letting misunderstandings ruin what they’ve just begun, they talk and listen to each other. It makes for a solid foundation that will be tested when Tyler finds out about his brother.

The fact that Sweet/Vicious isn’t going for the cliché storylines, when it comes to Jules recovery or her relationships, makes it stand out. They’re not waiting for the magical moment where Jules gets over her trauma and it’s no longer a part of her.

Jules rape is a part of her daily life. And while it plagues her in her dreams and waking moments, she’s not letting it stop her from being happy. Everyday she is fighting to be better and stronger, while surrounding herself with people who care for her.

Sweet/Vicious is not letting Jules or the audience forget her assault or letting it be her defining factor. Jules sets the rules in her own life. She is in control of her recovery and will get through whatever comes next.

She’s a survivor and that’s what they do.

Additional Notes:
  • Nick is the kindest and most understanding man. He sees that Jules needs time and is willing to let her set the pace. Even better, when confronted by the woman who his brother assaulted, he didn’t automatically claim that his brother was innocent. He knows that his brother is guilty and won’t make any excuses for him. And because he’s family it makes it extra awkward that he cares for him.
  • Jules cursing is adorable. I need more “gosh darn it’s” and “drats” as soon as possible.
  • Jules is dead set on having her two worlds mesh together by having Ophelia and Kennedy become friends. Forget the jealous BFF trope. We’re going for something different here!
  • Kennedy’s rapist boyfriend calling the rape “cheating” was absolutely disgusting. He’s going to take this a step forward by telling Kennedy that it was cheating in the hopes of causing a rift between them. I hope he fails, beautifully.
  • Nick Fink, who plays Tyler, is an actual artist. Makes you wonder how many of those pieces are his?

Sweet/Vicious Review: Tragic Kingdom (Season 1 Episode 4)

Lyra is a TV and movie enthusiast. It all started on a dark night when she turned on Fox and fell in love with the X-Files. It was all history after that as she got lost in Doctor Who, The Marvel Verse and most recently everything DC. Her love for Doctor Who lead her to study abroad, where she fell into live-tweeting and the lovely explosion of fandom life that Tumblr is. Her main love for the summer (with a mega re-watch happening) is Arrow. When she isn’t sharing her love for TV and movies she’s writing fan-fiction, taking care of her family, and puttering around her kitchen.
