Jane The Virgin Review: Chapter Fifty-One (Season 3 Episode 7)

Jane the Virgin, Reviews

Am I watching a suspense movie or something?

Because Jane The Virgin Season 3 Episode 7, titled “Chapter Fifty-One” sure does make it seem like we are!

On this episode of Jane The Virgin, the show gets a little spooky as they establish the fine work of Alfred Hitchcock for some suspense, and I love it!

Our usual narrator on Jane The Virgin plays a big part on this episode as he gives us exceptional commentary on a play by-play intrigue of what’s to expect next. And as usual, the narrator nails his part in entertaining the audience.

On “Chapter Fifty-One,” Rafael is having a day full of confusion and perplexed flashbacks to his childhood which can possibly lead to being beneficial to the police investigation involving the complex criminal life of his late mother.

Throughout the episode, Rafael divulges into a rather uneasy state of confusion when he begins to uncover some weird memories of his past and wonders why it’s happening, only to find out toward the end of the episode that his whole life was a lie.

Rafael Solano is…not a real Solano.

Yup, Rafael is adopted, and I am shocked. How could this be?

Yet another instance of Solano family craziness is revealed. Man, trouble does seem to follow this family. Alive or dead, it doesn’t matter.

I wonder how Rafael will actually learn to process all of this in the episodes to come.

How will he tell Luisa, who is now not his half-sister anymore and just basically, how will he get past this all? Oh man, I didn’t see that coming.

The directors did well on this episode in bringing the elements of Hitchcock’s classic work as they stray away from the habitual comedy, but center this path of storytelling to capture a more dramatic component of Rafael’s storyline.

It’s always nice to change things up once in a while. This definitely keeps the audience entertained with this kind of storytelling. I know I am!

Jane believes it’s time to introduce baby Mateo to her grounded Catholic faith by taking Mateo to church with her.

As we all know, Jane is a woman in firm belief of her Catholic faith, and it plays an important component of who she is and who she’s always been.

With Mateo, she wants him to be able to familiarize with it. Michael mentions that she hasn’t been to church in a while, and Rafael is not a fan of her idea. Oops. This isn’t easy especially if both parents do not share the same values.

Jane realizes that she hasn’t been to church recently and talks to Mother Superior at the convent with the nun. She soon realizes that she’s been having a disconnect with her faith.

And sometimes, that’s okay because life gets a bit hard. No one is perfect and this realization makes Jane bawl.

Jane talks about Michael being shot which began testing her faith then and questions why something bad like that would happen.

Gina Rodriquez delivers a heartfelt conversation with the nun and she truly opens up about her fear and anger. It’s more than just Michael’s unfortunate shooting, and soon discovering she is detached from her connection with God.

I’m glad Jane was able to catch this realization before it grows into a more complicated matter for her. She makes a good call in pushing off taking Mateo to church like she intends to. She needs clarity for herself first.

It is a good start to work on, if you ask me. As much as Jane holds her Catholic faith so dearly to her heart, it’s always best to be in it with a clear conscience before having to make someone else dive into it.

Jane can do it, she always does.

Rogelio and his multiple dates set up by his match maker, Darci Factor get messy. Even with guest star appearances of Denise Richards, Brooke Burke and Carmen Electra, he is unsatisfied. Rogelio is so darn picky! Those appearances are random, but it is Jane The Virgin, so you never do know what to expect.

But surprisingly, after all the failed dates tin attempt to both get over Xiomara and finding a new baby mama, Darci offers to have a child with him.

That’s not awkward at all, right?

Something tells me Rogelio will go through this till he thinks it’s all a bad idea and I’m curious as to how this will play out. I think he is sad inside and this is his way of trying to make everything okay for himself.

I am a little worried he still will not be satisfied because it’s not with Xiomara. Heartbreaks, they really do break you.

Michael finds out he did not pass his physical which crushes as him as the excitement of finally getting back to his police work is delayed for now. It’s okay Michael, there is always next time.

Getting shot is not something to take lightly, wounds take more time to heal but Michael is very adamant in going back into the field.

I haven’t seen anyone that loves his police job as much as Michael loves his.

Stray Thoughts

  • Catalina has a secret french lover and robbed all of those jewels and cash. I knew she was more to her than that oh so perfect personality!
  • Rogelio keeps talking about his penis too much.
  • Where is Petra and the twins?
  • Michael is so cute with Mateo, what a great stepdad.
  • Xiomara knew Bruce was a married man back then and continued to see him. Oh why oh why, Xiomara?
