Frequency Review: Break, Break, Break (Season 1 Episode 7)
On Frequency Season 1 Episode 7, “Break, Break, Break,” Satch and Raimy team up! It is amazing to see the two of them as partners. We have mainly only seen Satch working side by side with Frank, so it is nice that he partners up with Raimy for a bit.
They make a good bit of headway on the Nightingale killer. Aside from Frank mentioning the Catskills to Raimy, all of this development happens in the present. Raimy figures this out on her own, with some help from Satch’s notes and murder board.
I have been struggling to see Raimy as a good detective because she hasn’t been acting like one. This time, however, Raimy does a good job. You watch her piece things together, profile the Nightingale with Satch, and then make a breakthrough. She’s believable as a detective, and she comes off as a damn good one.
The Nightingale becomes a lot more intriguing once Raimy figures out that he is preparing all of his victims for a good death. This insight is fascinating, and it makes you wonder why he chose nurses as victims. You would think that nurses are already doing good, so they don’t need to be cleansed. Any theory as to why the Nightingale chooses to “save” nurses?
The investigation scenes in the present are what we need more of. The investigation gets you on the edge of your seat, especially as you are watching Satch and Raimy poke around at the super creepy camp. The decor alone is nightmare worthy.
It feels like Frequency has finally hit its stride, at least when it comes to the investigation.
Satch’s speech to Raimy in the car about losing his family and becoming the job is such an amazing, quiet moment. You not only catch a glimpse into Satch’s life, but that scene also showcases how close Satch and Raimy are. It’s a beautiful scene.
I understand that Satch’s speech about becoming the job ties into Frank and Jules drama, but I don’t think we needed to see it more of the drama to make the connection. We know what’s going on in their lives. Satch’s speech still would have hit home for all of us even the Frank and Jules scenes were cut from the episode.

Between the undercover girlfriend showing up, Frank and Jules fighting, and Jules sleeping with the coach, there’s so much unnecessary drama. We get it. Times are tough in the Sullivan household.
There is not one aspect of those scenes that is entertaining. They detract away from an otherwise stellar episode.
I could continue to complain about those nightmare scenes, but I really do not want to waste my breath. They are boring. Focus on the case. Frank and Jules are an important part of the show, but let’s explore their relationship without the ridiculous drama.
Remind us why they worked as a couple. Give us more insight from maybe what Raimy remembers, and then have her bring it up to her dad on the ham radio. This is one of the instances where I’d rather hear someone talk about what happened rather then see it because then we at least get some great Raimy and Frank scenes out of it.
Frank: What if who we are costs us everything we cherish the most?
Frank opening up to Raimy about what is was like undercover, for instance, is a phenomenal moment. There’s no one really for Frank to open up to in 1996 about all of this, so he shares it with his daughter. These aren’t normal conversations a dad and daughter have with one another, but that is just another reason why they are awesome.
