Blindspot Review: Her Spy’s Mind (Season 2 Episode 6)
We finally got to see a bit of Roman and Jane character development on Blindspot. “Her Spy’s Mind,” Season 2 Episode 6 flashes back to their days in the orphanage, and does so while still giving us the action-packed plot we’ve come to expect each week.
Roman’s entrance into the Blindspot universe brought up a lot of questions. Most of them about whether or not the story that he and Shepherd presented was the truth. After seeing the memories in “Her Spy’s Mind,” the emotions that Roman exhibits make me believe that he’s telling the truth.
The memories that Jane uncovers in this episode include the coin that their parents gave them, how Roman got his scar, and the combination to a puzzle box. When Jane finally opens the puzzle box, they find a crumpled up gum wrapper and it sends Roman into tears.
The gum wrapper is a token that Alice gave Ian after someone stole the coin. Roman thought he lost it in the orphanage.
This is the end of a mission where Jane tries to save lives instead of killing. Throughout the episode, Jane flashes back to the time Roman killed six cops outside the car, or the time he killed someone when she couldn’t.

She knows that Roman has a killer’s instinct, and she’s taking it upon herself to show him another way.
One of the best moments of the episode is when Jane finally addresses the elephant in the room. She expresses to Roman that if she could go back, she’d have done things differently. She laments that she doesn’t want Remy to come back.
This bit of sibling bonding shows their relationship is growing in leaps and bounds. Roman doesn’t trust Jane at the beginning of the episode but by the end, he certainly feels like he’s got a bit of his sister back.
At the same time, it addresses the topic of identity that comes up so often in this show. Jane sees her memories, and through Roman, and through those memories, she realizes that Remy’s ideals may not match hers.
This is the kind of character development I was really hoping for this season and I am really glad we got to see a little bit of it finally. Luke Mitchell is great as Roman in this episode, finally getting to show us a little bit of his softer side.
I have been half expecting Roman to go off on a rampage ever since the whole rabbit incident. I am glad he hasn’t yet but I feel like there’s a thread that he’s just barely hanging by. Depending on how the next few episodes go, that could all change.
Stray Thoughts:
- So, Weller and Nas….totally random right? I don’t even know how to address their kiss. I am trying to erase this three-minute segment from my memory.
- On the other hand, Weller defends Jane! When he found out that one of the company men in Bulgaria tortured Jane he lost it. I won’t lie, I smiled. That was a dumb move on the part of the CIA agent to let that slip.
- Zapata and Reade are total friendship goals. We can all hope for someone who will trust us and believe in us entirely. Afterall, “what’s a little accessory after the fact between friends?”
- Sandstorm set up Winters! And it was Roman and Shepherd? That was pretty crazy reveal to leave us with this week.
