Mr. Robot Review: eps2.9_pyth0n-pt1.p7z (Season 2 Episode 11)
Mr. Robot Season 2 Episode 11, “eps2.9_pyth0n-pt1.p7z,” annoys me right off the bat.
Why the hell doesn’t the episode begin with Darlene’s fate?!
I know, I know, because good dramas are all about suspense. I get it.
But seriously, Mr. Robot isn’t hurting for ratings or popularity. Is it really too much to ask that the show answer the biggest cliffhanger from last week right away?
Elliot: Mind awake, body asleep.
For some reason, this mantra really freaks me out. It makes me feel like my mind is trapped in my body and can’t get out. (But isn’t this always the case?)
Also, when Elliot invites us to say the mantra with him, the voice I hear sounds eerie and distinctly male to me. I think it’d be much more interesting if Elliot’s imaginary friend is a woman, don’t you?
Additionally, I’m not sure it’s just one other voice I’m hearing, which adds to the creepiness of the mantra. I almost feel like the voice (or voices) is coming from inside my head.
As I watch Dom try to explain to Agent Santiago how dangerous the Dark Army is, and how he just brushes her off, it’s clear to me he would take her concerns more seriously if she were a man. The woman was almost killed by the Dark Army in last week’s episode, several people actually were killed, and Agent Santiago is trying to tell her there’s no need to alert the Director?!
This literally makes no sense.
When Dom gets back to her apartment, watching her try to “befriend” Alexa is pathetic and heartbreaking. When she asks Alexa if it loves her, I want to cry because I can feel how desperate she is to be loved. Is this what Dom’s world has come to, looking for love from an electronic device?
In the future, will electronic devices be able to give us the love we so desperately crave?
This scene is one of the things Mr. Robot does so well. The show is constantly examining the relationship between human beings and technology: turning the relationship this way and that, trying to expose its hidden layers. Mr. Robot incessantly asks us to consider whether this relationship is hurting or helping us.
Moving on to Angela, the room she’s taken to terrifies me. I can’t make heads or tails of it!
What is it supposed to mean? Why does the little girl look like a miniature Angela? What is the point of these ridiculous questions?!
The interaction between Angela and Whiterose is everything. Another great thing about Mr. Robot is that the conversations between women on the show are always meaningful, which is something I really appreciate.
Every time I see Whiterose, I am consumed with thoughts about the value of time. Think about how much time we waste worrying about things that don’t matter or doing things we don’t want to do. If we limited every interaction we didn’t want to partake in to 28 minutes, imagine all the time we could save!
Regarding Phillip Price, I am once again impressed by his power. I never realized he literally creates his own currency with Ecoin and, therefore, is one step closer to world domination.
At this point, it appears the hack is helping Phillip Price, not hurting him.
Here, Mr. Robot says so much about the way of the world. If you attack a mighty conglomerate like Evil Corp, it is extremely unlikely you will completely dismantle the company.
You don’t become as powerful as Phillip Price without being brilliant and determined. A determined person will always find a way around an obstacle put in front of him.
Price is such a well-crafted character. He is willing to make small sacrifices to reach his ultimate goal.
He plays a long game, but never loses sight of the finish line.
“eps2.9_pyth0n-pt1.p7z” annoys with its beginning and its ending. For the love of God, is Tyrell dead or alive?! I can’t take this anymore.
This better be answered next week or I’m out. I already got screwed over by The Walking Dead finale. I will not be screwed over by Mr. Robot’s!
Other Random Thoughts:
- Every time the red phone rings, I jump out of my skin.
- In case you’re wondering, I’m a giraffe.
- Did Elliot’s father and Angela’s mother die for a reason, or is Whiterose being facetious? I’m confused.
- Don’t ever send me a cypher unless you want to ensure I have no idea what you’re talking about. I couldn’t have deciphered that thing if my life depended on it.
