11 TV Shows We Could Watch Over and Over Again

Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Doctor Who, Gilmore Girls, Lists, Scandal, The Office, The X-Files

Everyone has that one show they can watch repeatedly — it’s the show you know best, the one you’re happy to watch while browsing the internet, cooking, or chilling on the couch while procrastinating cleaning (or, you know, procrastinating in general).

Here are 11 TV shows that are perfect for watching over and over again.

1. Bob’s Burgers (FOX)

If you’re in the mood for food that’s a little more animated, Bob’s Burgers is the ideal choice for your re-watching needs. The Belcher family does what no other family on TV seems to do–genuinely like each other.

From Bob and Linda trying to convince the Health Inspector to keep their restaurant open, to the kids spoofing the Goonies while running around an abandoned taffy factory, the antics of the Belchers are the definition of comfort TV.

2. Brooklyn Nine-Nine (FOX)

With one of the most diverse casts on TV, Brooklyn Nine-Nine not only gives equal weight to each of its main ensemble, but it remains terrifically funny without ever missing a beat. Rosa is allowed to be both a mystery and deeply layered, while Terry’s big teddy bear personality is highlighted nicely by his love for his girls, and also yogurt.

Plus, seeing Jake and Amy fall into extremely dorky love is as ridiculous as it is adorable.

3. Chef’s Table (Netflix)

Netflix’s pinnacle docu-series is nothing less than an intense love letter to food. In a show that feels exactly like what would happen if the Food Network “elevated” their own network’s dishes, Chef’s Table features stories of world-class chefs from around the world.

From Argentina to Thailand, the stories and steps each chef took to owning their own restaurants and dictating their own menus is presented with a finesse and beautiful simplicity that is addicting to watch.

4. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (The CW)

Drama? Check! Cute friendships? Check! Crazy hijinks? Double check! A series of morally questionable misadventures set to extremely catchy music? Also check!

While Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’s Rachel Bloom goes on journey from big-time lawyer to small-town meddler that is at times cringe-worthy, it’s never anything less than stellar at the same time. Plus, who can’t help but learn the line to every single song on Youtube so that they can sing along while re-watching?

5. Doctor Who (BBC)
Doctor Who S10 Ep1
Doctor Who S10 Ep1

Remember how underrated Martha Jones was? Or that time Andrew Garfield starred in an arc about pig people and Daleks? How about how mad Donna’s ending made you? Wait, okay, that last one isn’t as enticing, but Doctor Who is an adventure you can’t take just once.

Each re-watch comes with new revelations and new preferences, and new takes on your favorite companion. Plus, River Song!

6. Friends (WB/Netflix)

Friends The Last One Part 2

Despite certain things not holding up well over time (an all-white cast, casual sexism, and transphobia all come to mind), Friends is still a classic watch. It was at times laugh-out-loud funny, and not in the “telling your friends ‘lol’ while wearing a poker face” way, but in a real, “belly-deep laughing” kind of way.

The personalities of the guys might not hold up well, but all three women remain funny and smart (and talented, and stylish–we could go on). It’s definitely worth it just for the ladies.

7. Gilmore Girls (WB/Netflix)
Gilmore Girls Season 1 Lorelai and Rory
Gilmore Girls Season 1 Lorelai and Rory

There’s something comforting about sitting back and singing along loudly to Gilmore Girls’ iconic theme song. The residents of Stars Hollow are like familiar friends (except for Taylor), and the constant “will they, won’t they” between Luke and Lorelei is as addicting as it is infuriating.

Most importantly, there will never be a bond as strong and Lorelai and Rory’s on TV again. Good thing they’re coming back to Netflix in November!

8. Parks and Recreation (NBC)

Originally proposed as a spin-off of The Office (also featured on this list), Parks and Recreation grew into a cult-hit that can be watched over and over. Pawnee, Indiana feels like a home away from home, and the characters that populated it as bright and colourful as the show’s colour palette.

Watching Leslie Knope’s journey from Deputy Director to (perhaps?) the President of the United States is a journey that’s heartwarming to take over and over again. Treat yo self to re-watching this show right now.

9. Scandal (ABC)
KERRY WASHINGTON
Scandal – “The List” – After Air Force Two’s extraordinary safe landing, Cyrus takes his victory lap as America’s newest hero, and Mellie demands that the Oval stop at nothing until justice is served. Meanwhile, Liv tries to bridge the gap with the Gladiators by disclosing her theory behind the hijack and Cyrus’s true intentions, on “Scandal,” airing THURSDAY, MARCH 15 (9:00-10:00 p.m. EDT), on The ABC Television Network. KERRY WASHINGTON

Keeping up with the life and times (and jackets) of Olivia Pope definitely requires more than one viewing. Scandal’s Washington D.C. is so gripping that it’s impossible to look away (even when Fitz is at his worst, when you’d really rather look away), so pull up to the couch with snacks and blankets and settle in to see Kerry Washington play the game like no one else.

10. The Office (NBC)

The Office

In an era where TV lives or dies within a few seasons, nine seasons of The Office’s functionally dysfunctional Dundler Mifflin seems like a literal marathon. But with the steady presence of Jim, Pam, Dwight, and the rest of the office’s incredible comedic cast, even the changing of the guard from Michael Scott to guest stars like Idris Elba, James Spader, and Catherine Tate is a pleasure to experience again.

Plus, some of those already-dated jokes land even better the second time around. Remember Michael and his George Foreman grill?

11. The X-Files (FOX)

The pinnacle of “will they, won’t they” are undeniably Mulder and Scully. Nine seasons may seem like a daunting re-watch, but there’s nothing quite like seeing those classic 90s shoulder pads and baggy suits back in action.

Between finding the truth (it’s still out there) and slogging through those Vancouver forests, The X-Files is an easy choice for “most re-watchable show featuring aliens and also Gillian Anderson’s ever-changing hair.”
