Zoo Review: The Moon and the Star (Season 2 Episode 5)
Au revoir, Chloe.
The Zoo Crew says goodbye to one of their own in the latest installment of Zoo, “The Moon and the Star.”
I’m honestly surprised that the writers have written Chloe off.
I thought surely she’d be fine, but she died faster than you can say, ‘Caraquet.’
With her gone there are now countless opportunities for Jackson’s character growth, as he ‘evolves’ into whatever it is that he’s turning into, black tears and all.
SIDE NOTE: Can we all just go back in time to last week, when Jackson was just shirtless and hanging out, and not, you know, crying literal oil tears?
I can’t help but be sad that Jackson and Chloe’s happiness is so short-lived. They have (had?) a lovely connection that the series doesn’t really rely on, at least not to the degree in which it could have.
We’ll just need to put our eggs into the Mitch and Jamie for our ‘shipping basket, from here on out, especially seeing as how Abe and Dariela appear to be a dead end.
Abe’s sudden distaste for Dariela is almost as surprising as Chloe’s death. Abe has never been the type of character who would turn his back on anyone, especially not someone he has a relationship with.
So for him to look at Dariela, and tell her that seeing her only reminds him that Chloe is dead, feels wrong.
Abe will come back around. I know it.
He has to. Dariela isn’t going anywhere, not if Jackson has anything to say about it. Her purpose is now to keep Jackson in check, and put a bullet in him if it becomes necessary.
Mitch’s step-mom is on-board with the Zoo Crew now, which is fine, I suppose. I don’t really enjoy the introduction of a new character during such an emotional hour, however, when Chloe’s death and the team finding Jamie should be the main focus. Save the newbies for next week.
Jamie’s story with Logan in Caraquet is just plain strange.
I know that the animal apocalypse is making weird things happen. The show has done nothing but drive that home.
It’s good to know that the writers of Zoo believe that it would take only five months for a town to go insane, and revert back to sacrificial days living in communes.
A monthly vote to decide who is given to the animals as food? Come on. That’s just plain intolerable.
It’s also unbelievable that in five months, no one could think of a way to take down the six polar bears. Jamie is there for all of five minutes and comes up with a plan. The people in this commune are idiots.
Dariela gets crap for shutting the door on Chloe, but she made a fast decision. Jamie gave thought to not letting the weird commune leader into the bus. She practically handed the woman over to the polar bear. Something tells me that no one will give Jamie crap for that.
Therefore, I’m adding that woman to Jamie’s kill count, which is now up to three.
The entire hour leads up to the big reunion between Jamie and Mitch, which makes everyone tear up.
Okay, it made ME tear up. I like them, okay?
As the search for an animal cure continues, I’m at least happy to know that the remaining members of the Zoo Crew are all in one place. Hopefully, we won’t lose any others before the season ends.
SERIOUSLY?! Moments:
- Worst CGI snake ever.
- How did that guy NOT know a snake slithered into him? I get the mechanics of how we don’t know we swallow spiders while we sleep and all that jazz, but…a SNAKE?
- Also, are we to assume the snake slithered into him in the bathroom? Like…on the toilet?
- Was the whole reveal that Allison was Mitch’s stepmom supposed to be shocking, in some way? Because it wasn’t. Honestly, the whole thing went over my head.
- Where’d that sloth go? Did they just leave it there when they grabbed Chloe?
- How exactly does feeding 2 people to six polar bears keep them happy for an entire month? I don’t think they know how digestion works.
- Rutabaga mashed potatoes? Ew. I’d drop my plate too, Jamie.

“Where’d that sloth go? Did they just leave it there when they grabbed Chloe?”
When Jackson and Mitch were laying Chloe on the table once they were all back on the plane, there was a quick shot of Abe wheeling the sloth past them. So it’s on board somewhere.
Thank you!! I must have missed that part!! 🙂
