UnREAL Review: Casualty (Season 2 Episode 6)

Reviews, UnREAL

Rachel is starting to spiral in UnREAL’s “Casualty.”

She doesn’t mean to, but it’s the only way that she knows how to handle the pain she’s feeling inside. And the more she hurts, the more she tries to distance herself from the fun, loving, and happy person she can be with Coleman.

Everything that Rachel is doing right now is a coping mechanism.

She lies to Coleman because she doesn’t trust him enough yet with the knowledge that she can be so easy broken or thrown of her game.

And the sad thing is that opening herself up to Coleman could help her bear the weight of her problems and get through them more easily.

Admitting that you’re not as strong as others assume, doesn’t make you weak, no matter what you might think or other’s tell you. It makes you stronger.

Quinn isn’t helping Rachel by demanding that she return home or not tell the police. Rachel should report the incident and throw caution to the wind because she’s the most important thing at this moment.

But of course, going to the police and opening the can of worms that is Everlasting would mean the end of UnREAL. And we can’t have that, can we?

We can only sit and watch as Rachel rips at the seams and self destructs at a dangerous pace with every Everlasting tale she spins. There’s no stopping a freight train who has the breaks but doesn’t want to hit them.

The return of Adam will just make things worse.

Rachel will use his return as an opportunity to test Coleman’s commitment to her and as a form of punishment against herself for something she doesn’t understand and that isn’t her fault in the first place.

At the end of the season, when she’s alone and lost in her own mind, she’ll think that the world around her is what she deserves instead of something that she created to not deal with the hard stuff.

Rip off that band-aid, Rachel. Look at the person you’ve become, the people that surround you, and separate yourself from those who don’t care if you spiral into oblivion if it doesn’t benefit them. Take care of yourself.

Don’t be afraid to stare at the parts inside that are scared, lonely, and hurting. Push past it. Strive for more than what you have now. And for once give yourself the happily ever after you deserve.

Favorite Quinn Quotes UnREAL’s “Casualty:”

  • You are the only person that can make my father’s funeral about you.
  • Next time I’m cutting them off.
  • Ok, let me guess. Right now she’s backed into a corner, chewing on her fingers like they’re Twinkies, eyes ablaze, talking as if her words were going to save the world.
  • Yes, she’s sure. What part of that did you not get?
  • Ever since Coleman’s got here everything’s gone to hell. That boy’s like a cancer and we need to cut him out.

UnREAL airs Mondays at 9/8c on Lifetime.

Lyra is a TV and movie enthusiast. It all started on a dark night when she turned on Fox and fell in love with the X-Files. It was all history after that as she got lost in Doctor Who, The Marvel Verse and most recently everything DC. Her love for Doctor Who lead her to study abroad, where she fell into live-tweeting and the lovely explosion of fandom life that Tumblr is. Her main love for the summer (with a mega re-watch happening) is Arrow. When she isn’t sharing her love for TV and movies she’s writing fan-fiction, taking care of her family, and puttering around her kitchen.
