Killjoys Review: Dutch and the Real Girl (Season 2 Episode 1)
The Season 2 premiere of Killjoys gives us quite a few things to start theorizing about.
We do figure out what Khlyen’s endgame was regarding D’av — Khlyen wanted D’av to protect Dutch while also keeping him up to date with all of Dutch’s activities. I appreciate that not only do we answer a good bit of questions, we also rescue D’av.
Dutch: Are you seriously telling me to give up on him?
Johnny: I’m the little brother, remember? I’m genetically incapable of giving up on him.
Prolonging the rescue mission just would not have worked. We don’t have time for it. Rescuing D’av wrapped up last season’s cliffhanger, and it allows us to move onto the big mysteries of this season, and man, do we have some intriguing mysteries. Anyone have a guess as to why D’av was immune to the goo?
The season is nicely set up, and I like the idea that maybe Khlyen isn’t the bad guy or, more specifically, Dutch’s nemesis. We spent all of last season learning why we should fear him. We learned about all the terrible things he has done, especially to Dutch. At this point, we’re almost hardwired to be suspicious of anything Khlyen does.
This is why the possibility that Khlyen isn’t the big bad is exciting. I’m not saying this means that Khlyen is all of a sudden an angel or anything, but he’s not the biggest threat to our team. He might even be on Dutch’s side, which is weird to think about.
D’av suggests that Khlyen is afraid of something, and that something is what he is trying to protect Dutch from. There’s still so much we don’t know about the RAC, and I’m excited to delve deeper into the hierarchy of the organization. Do you think D’av is right about Khlyen?
Pree joining the search for D’av is the best thing that has ever happened. This means we get even more of Pree and his sass, and we get to learn more about him and his surprising amount of aliases. Pree brings a fun dynamic to the group, and it’s fun watching him interact with everyone when he’s not behind a bar.
Pree: I am not wearing my dying underwear today.
Case in point: Johnny and Pree go undercover as husbands. It’s hilarious. Sure, their stealth could use a little work. After hacking a network and causing the lights to continuously flicker, you do not make your way to the door. You do no draw attention to yourself.
Seeing as how Pree will be divorcing Johnny and taking all of his money, there’s no harm in Johnny flirting with someone new… like maybe Clara? Come on, tell me I’m not the only person aboard this ship!
Clara is an illegally modified bot with a killer arm named Alice. There’s still so much to learn about the world of Killjoys. Clara is a great reminder of that. She’s also just a fantastic character who will hopefully return very, very soon. Would you like to see Clara again?
