Tell-Tale TV Panel: How To Get Away With Murder Season 2
Another twisty season of How To Get Away With Murder has come and gone, and we tackled a couple more absolutely crazy cases.
We uncovered more of the Keating Five’s personal lives and got to know Annalise, Bonnie, and Frank a bit better. There was a plot twist or twenty thrown into the mix, but hey, what else do you expect on TGIT?
How did the season do overall? See what some of our writers had to say, and then don’t forget to leave your thoughts in a comment below.
Our panelists are:
- Lauren Busser, staff writer for Tell-Tale TV
- Sheena Bosket, staff writer for Tell-Tale TV
- Jessica Kreamer, contributing writer for Tell-Tale TV
On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rank the season overall?
Lauren: I think it was a 7. I don’t feel that it was as strong as the first season.
Sheena: I give it an 8. I think Viola Davis’s acting was always on point and made the show worth watching. Some of the plot twists were ridiculously cliché though, but some were genuinely shocking.
Jessica: I’m going to be harsh and give it a 5. It wasn’t as strong as the first season. Viola Davis was the only reason I kept watching during the second half of the season.
What was the season’s biggest mistake?
Lauren: The biggest mistake was the overarching case. The premise was interesting, but I didn’t feel like that paid off at the end. The characters surrounding the siblings were more interesting than the siblings themselves, and I found Wes’s journey must more adventurous.
In fact, anytime the siblings were on screen, I sort of tuned it out. In same cases I even thought the case-of-the-week was a little more interesting.
Sheena: As mentioned above, the cliché plot twists. I could have done without a professor who sleeps with his student, then has her killed when she becomes pregnant.
Jessica: I hated the cliche plot twists. I was extremely disappointed in the Hapstall case and outcome and really, really, really wish Philip didn’t exist.

What worked really well this season?
Lauren: One thing that this show does really well is the flash-forwards. I think that device worked really well, but I really expected this case to go somewhere different. I can’t even explain what I wanted to see happen, but it just felt like it plateaued.
Sheena: The show’s sensationalism. From Annalise’s relationship with Eve, to Michaela and Asher’s hookup, to what happened to Bonnie when she was a child, the show never failed to entertain me, even when I thought some aspects of the plot were ludicrous.
Jessica: The evolution of Asher. He went from privileged frat party boy, who was not at all involved with the Keating Five, to being pulled into the drama of the season. I found it exciting to watch, and I actually cared about the character.
What was the biggest surprise of the season?
Lauren: The one shocking moment to me was finding out how the death of Wes’s mother played out. Finding out that she killed herself was not something I expected.
Sheena: I may be the only who thinks this but it was really shocking to me to learn that Annalise had lost a child. I could easily see her being a woman who never wanted children so I was surprised to learn that was something she had been through.
Jessica: I agree with Sheena. I was super shocked to learn that Annalise had lost a child. It was surprising that the Annalise we know today was not the same person ten years ago. I wonder what she would be like had her son survived?
How to Get Away With Murder returns to Thursday nights at 10/9c this fall on ABC.
