Containment Review: There Is a Crack in Everything (Season 1 Episode 8)

Containment, Reviews

We’re back!

After two long Containment free weeks, we are finally back, and man, is there a lot to talk about.

“There Is a Crack in Everything” is all about Jake and Katie doing some serious digging on patient zero. Remember that USB that Jana was able to decrypt? Yeah, it’s time to watch it.

The findings are shocking, but please remember: I called it.

Dr. Canters created the virus.

He literally sent Dr. Sanders’ boyfriend the virus. When there was an outbreak, he didn’t stop anything. He didn’t tell the CDC, and he hasn’t told Jake or Katie — who have Lex on the outside.

I hope somewhere in the next couple of episodes we find out why. Was this just a thesis that got out of hand? Was he coerced into doing this? Is he being framed? Or is Dr. Canters just a complete and utter psychopath?

He’s just sitting there waiting, hoping for a cure.

Which maybe is the reason why he’s so adamant to find a cure in Thomas. There seems to be a protocol for this kind of stuff, but all Dr. Canters can apparently see is hope.

Speaking of hope, it’s really freaking me out that Thomas may not really be immune.

Apparently, his symptoms just may show up a lot later, and what’s not great is that he’s had contact with literally all the kids in the hospital, Katie, and Jake.

This is a Julie Plec show, guys. This seems like the perfect way to give #Jatie that tragic ending that we’re all holding our breath for.

I mean, please don’t make Thomas sick. There’s something about children being sick that really brings a black cloud over my soul. But remember, the first episode shows Katie holding Mary in her hands, screaming for help.

And it’s because Mary kisses Thomas right before he leaves.

So if Thomas is sick, that means that Quinton, Jake, Katie, and so many others are affected too.

With the Cordon under protest now, #Jatie probably infected, and Lex and Lommers in containment, this could be the breaking point.

But you know what? Maybe this will light a fire under the CDC’s butts.

Maybe instead of just putting up some walls, and having national guards for security, the CDC will work just a tiny bit harder to find a cure; because Lommers hasn’t been very forthcoming about that information, has she?

She’s just been all about “containing” the virus. What about stopping it? What about saving the people who have helped Lex so much on the inside? What about Jana, Suzie, Jake, and Katie?

Really… what about Jake and Katie?

It’s been such a ride to watch these two flirt and give off subtle hints towards each other. Yet somehow, even after 8 episodes, it seems just as organic as some of The CW’s other shows, which took a couple of seasons to get a couple together.

On The Vampire Diaries, Steroline took 6 seasons while Delena took at least 3.  The 100‘s Bellarke hasn’t even happened yet, just to name a few.

So, hats off to Chris Wood and Kristen Gutoskie who have done an amazing job staying true to their characters, and have been able to portray such amazing chemistry on screen.

Watching them have a real conversation about their relationship was great. It had me swooning.

Jake: You…you think I’ll run. And maybe at one time I would’ve been that guy. If you think that your crazy life is going to scare me off, you are so wrong. There’s nothing out there or in here that scares me as much as losing you. There’s no version of my life that doesn’t have you in it.
Katie: You can’t promise that.
Jake: I just did.

Honestly, that shower scene was probably the most sensual scene since the first Damon and Elena dance at the Miss Mystic Falls pageant, or the painting scene from Mistresses between April and Daniel. You pick.

But seriously, it was perfect. Absolutely perfect.

Which is why I am so nervous for next week. Plec’s shows never stay happy for too long. With all-hell breaking loose, there probably will be some tragic consequences.

It such a joy to watch these two every week as they try to find romance despite what`s going on around. It is a beautiful thing to watch and my guilty reason I tune in every week. 🙂
