Containment Review: A Time To Be Born (Season 1 Episode 10)
Jake’s been an all-around, great guy.
In this week’s episode of Containment, entitled “A Time to be Born” he gets even better.
Up until now, aside from his anger issues, Jake’s been pretty perfect. He’s taken Katie out on a date, been great with Quentin, roamed the streets to make sure everyone is safe inside the cordon, and even went to make sure Jana was okay. He’s helped with the very last-minute food drop, and helped keep Xander safe.
This week, Jake helps deliver Teresa’s baby.
After seeing the title of the episode, it’s pretty obvious that this episode will center around Teresa’s birth, and it does.
While I do find Hannah Mangan-Lawerence’s acting to be just a bit unbelievable as a pregnant teenager — with the hallucinations, and awkward groans/screams — I do appreciate the storyline, because not only did it bring us countless possibilities, it also finally allowed Suzy to step up.
For a while now, I have really not cared about Suzy – at all. I haven’t cared about her affair, and I haven’t cared about her friendship with Jana; mostly because Suzy does not seem like a nice person most of the time. She’s moody, snippy, and annoying.
This week, she steps up.
Dennis shows up, infected and dying, and asks her to let him in.
It’s a bit cringe-worthy to be honest, because Suzy actually considers letting him in, but ultimately decides to protect her baby. Which, honestly, is a huge step up for her character.
I have always liked how Containment empowers woman. We can see that as unlikable as the character of Suzy is, she is still strong and independent.
Baby Leanne’s birth could be such a good thing. It could mean so many things to have a baby born in this time.
It could mean endless possibilities.
The virus has already evolved, so perhaps humans have already started to adapt to it too. Maybe, just maybe, baby Leanne will be immune.
Maybe between Leanne and Thomas, Cannerts can find a cure.
Wouldn’t that be great, you know, considering that Katie is sick?
The ending scene of this episode, with Jake completely mesmerized after helping Teresa deliver her baby — and even throwing out a comment about having a baby with Katie — was perfect.
Until Katie coughed.
I’ve been saying it for weeks. This is a Julie Plec show.
People die.
There is nothing in the world that could have prepared me for the look of utter distraught and heartbreak on Chris Wood’s face. But there are still 3 episodes left, and we do know that Dr. Cannerts is very close to finding some sort of solution.
So perhaps with Lex and Leo on the outside, hellbent on finding the truth, Cannerts will work extra hard to find a cure for Katie. He does seem to have taken a liking to her.
I mean, a girl can dream, right?
I just hope that the show ends on a happy note. I hope that Jake and Katie grow old together, and the last scene of the show is them telling their daughter and Quinton about how they met.
It would give closure.
It would keep Katie alive.
All I want, is Katie alive.
But alas, we must wait another week before the next episode airs.
What do you think will happen next on Containment? Will #Jatie make it? Will Lommers resign? Will Cannerts find a cure? Let us know in the comments below!

Yes can we please have a “walking off into the sunset to have bratwurst together “moment by ep 13. for the immensely likable Jake, Katie & Quentin? This threesome needs to have their happy ending and of course Sabine Lommers to get her come uppance? This show really grew on me right from the start and I do hope that those inside the cordon return to normal life after the virus. Julie Plec, you better give Chris Wood’s Jake Riley a deserved happy resolve especially after his Kai TVD sendoff?
