5 Things You Need to Know Before Watching Zoo Season 2

Previews, Zoo

Last summer, television viewers fell in love with Zoo, a series based on James Patterson’s book by the same title.

The series, starring James Wolk, follows his character, zoologist Jackson Oz, along with some of his new and old friends, on a quest to figure out why animals around the world are suddenly beginning to act out.

By ‘act out,’ we mean go totally bonkers crazy.

In Season 1, we saw lions eat people, cats congregating in the trees, birds peck a mother to death in the park, a bear who really just wanted a glass of wine, wolves break into a prison, and bats (an unbearable amount of bats) try to take over Rio.

The mystery of the season centered around Reiden Global, a big-bad corporation that played a hand in the animal antics.

Before Zoo‘s 2-hour season premiere on Tuesday, June 28th at 9/8c, check out a few key plot points that you need to know before heading into the summertime series!

Jackson’s Father Had the Answers

Jackson’s father, Robert Oz, was seen as a lunatic in the later days of his own career as a zoologist. He created manifesto videos which included his research and his theories that the animals were changing their behavior.

Those symptoms could be seen based on whether or not an animal has a ‘defiant pupil,’ or one pupil that seems to be leaking.

Jackson and his friends traveled around the world collecting Robert’s research, which ended up having merit. It turns out, he wasn’t as crazy as everyone thought. Robert’s research will surely come in handy as the team (or as I call them, the Zoo Crew), struggles to cure animals worldwide.

The Mother Cell Can Cure the Animals

Reiden Global has a cell, the Mother Cell. This cell can be mixed with some super science-y stuff to create a cure. There’s two problems: animals need to be injected somehow, and the Mother Cell melted in Africa.

Mitch, a veterinary pathologist played by scene-stealer Billy Burke, can create this cure with total ease. But how can it be administered around the world to animals that aren’t exactly willing to sit down and be pricked?

The plan at the end of Season 1 involved mosquitoes. If the mosquitoes can spread disease, then surely they can also spread a cure to disease. Will that plan still be in place? We’ll just have to wait and see!

It’s a Bad Idea to Fall in Love on Zoo

Jamie got down and dirty with an FBI agent who was helping the crew, and then he was an evil double-crosser so she killed him.

Jackson and Chloe finally locked lips, and then she missed the plane, got caught and tortured by a bad guy.

Mitch and Jamie confessed their love to each other on a plane to deliver a cured lion cub. Then the plane crashed and Jamie was presumed to be dead. She did finally contact Mitch in the finale to let him know that she was alive, but they are still separated by impossible circumstances.

It’s hard to have a relationship during an animal apocalypse.

Jackson MIGHT Be Dying

Remember back in the finale when Jackson’s neighbor died from a rabid dog bite?

In the final moments of the season, Mitch looked over at Jackson’s arm to see that he had also suffered a bite from a rabid dog. When he asked Jackson about it, he played it off casually. But there was some worry in his eyes.

Will we discover that Jackson is now infected? That would seem to be where the story is headed.

The Zoo Crew Are Literally Surrounded

The final moments of the finale saw the Zoo Crew in an impossible to escape scenario. They are in a jeep, surrounded on all four sides by pissed-off animals; lions, gorillas, jaguars, birds, you name the animal, and it was there.

The animals charged at the jeep, and the screen went black.

How on earth will the writers get the Zoo Crew out of that literal corner? We’ll be watching with anticipation to find out!

Perhaps we’ll even watch with a glass of wine, like our dear old friend, Wine Bear.

Zoo airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on CBS.
