Game of Thrones Review: Blood Of My Blood (Season 6 Episode 6)
Game of Thrones is finally setting up revenge for the Stark family. And what a joy it is.
In fact, the setup is so perfect that, at this point, all we have to worry about is the universe and its damnable tendency to always turn against this family. The rest? They have that covered.
Jon and Sansa are riding North to rally the smaller Northern houses into supporting them as they retake Winterfell.
Arya has finally given up all pretense of being “No One” and is, presumably, preparing to fight the Waif – and win.
Bran is now the Three-Eyed-Raven, and he got a surprise helping hand from the long-since-disappeared Benjen Stark.
Could it finally be the time of the Starks?
It sure looks like the answer is yes.
This episode was a special form of validation for book readers like me. We’ve only waited twenty years (Game of Thrones was published in 1996) to find out if Benjen Stark was alive. And though things might not turn out exactly like this in the books, we’ll take this.
We’ll take it.
Especially if it turns out that Uncle Benjen is going to be the one to reveal the worst-kept-secret-in-Westeros: Jon’s true parentage.
Because that’s the final link. Right now it’s all going the Stark’s way, all going Daenerys way. But can they truly win?
Maybe together.
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, though. Before that can happen, there’s Walder Frey and Edmure Tully’s reappearance to deal with.
It’s an interesting turn in the saga, especially if you consider both Jaime and Brienne are heading to the Riverlands, and they’ll once again be on separate sides.
Or will they? Jamie couldn’t beat Brienne with two hands before, so will he try now? He was, after all, the one who sent her on this quest to begin with.
Could we finally see the end of the Freys? Is Jamie going to turn on his family? It sounds absurd, but if Tommen is dead (he’s so going to die) and Jaime finds out about Cersei and Lancel…everything is possible.
Even the Kingslayer choosing to side with the Starks.
The Tully men would greatly help Jon and Sansa as they take back the North. A Lannister would help even more. Sounds absurd, but then again, Tyrion already defected.
And, on the Riverlands, Jaime is sure to meet the one person who always thought he could be more than the Kingslayer.
War is coming either way. To the North, to Westeros. It’s all about choosing a side now.
The Starks might have looked like poor bet a few years ago, but they currently hold the winning hand. Now we just have to find out what everyone else’s choices will be before we can begin to speculate about who’ll survive till the end.
After all, when you play the Game of Thrones, you either win or you die.
There’s no middle ground.
Other things to note:
- The Sam storyline was too long and drawn-out just for the sword. A part of me wants something else to happen and yet the bigger part is like, please no. No. This was too boring to continue for much longer.
- Jamie is heading to the Riverlands. Brienne is heading to the Riverlands. Forget Tormund, this is my Game of Thrones OTP.
- Tobias Menzies is such a good actor that I see him and, bam, Black Jack Randall. Makes it hard to like Edmure.
- Margery is by far the smartest woman in Westeros. Well played, my Queen. Well played.
- Dragons should be #1 in your recruitment strategy, Daenerys. Number one.
- Some book speculation coming, so if you don’t want to know about something that happened there and might NOT happen here, stop reading now. Could we actually get to see the Wyman Manderly storyline? You know, the one where he killed three Frey kinsmen, had them baked into huge pies and served them to the Bolton’s and Freys? Just the thought has me giddy.

Lady Stoneheart is coming… This episode pretty much sets her appearance, which will be both awesome and terrifying.
I’m afraid to get my hopes up! But yes, that WOULD be both awesome and terrifying.
I think there’s a 50/50 chance she’s gonna appear since there were a lot of clues this season (especially in the last two episodes):
– Bran’s vision of the Red Wedding was odd, why bring the Red Wedding now? Maybe to remind us of what needs to be avenged.
– Brienne and Jaime are both going to Riverrun, which also happens in the books. Brienne found Sansa in the series so it would be interesting to see how LS reacts to that.
– The Brotherhood without Banners is supporting the Blackfish, if she is indeed “alive” and leading them it makes perfect sense;
– Jon Snow’s resurrection, which also shows the audience that it is possible to come back from the dead.
– The Frey’s were brought back this season, hopefully to be killed 😉
– Benjen Stark came back and it’s indeed Coldhands, a plot many thought abandoned, but yet here it is coming in season 6.
So yeah it could be nothing, as all these things can be explained in her absence, but if it does happen it won’t unexpected. I’m getting ready just in case because this character is absolutely terrifying and we know that the show is flawless at characterization so better be careful 😛
